CJP orders removal of politicians’ pictures from governmental advertisements

KARACHI:The Supreme Court on Saturday directed the authorities concerned to submit the information of all the signboards featuring pictures of politician and ordered removal of all advertisements, signboards and panaflex with pictures of politicians,.

Headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, a three-member bench of the apex court was conducting the suo moto proceeding on the governmental advertisements with pictures of politicians.

During the hearing the CJP remarked that newspapers and televisions already run so many advertisements with pictures of politicians, there were even political figures in the government’s posters at polling stations.

He said that that whether images were of previous politicians or current ones, they would not be featured on governmental advertisements. “All such advertisements need to be removed and their cost value be returned to the national exchequer,” he ordered.

The authorities were ordered to remove the images of all political personalities from government-owned signboards, panaflex by April 4.

The court ordered the chief secretary to submit details of all advertisements and money by April 4.
