Drive against price hike: Rs583,000 fine imposed on profiteers

KARACHI:All the deputy commissioners of Karachi continued actions against the profiteers on the fourth day of the holy month of Ramazan in which six out of 190 violators of the official prices of the food items were arrested and sent to jail

During price control campaign initiated by city administration on the directives of the Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani, more than Rs583,000 fine was imposed on the sellers of food items including grocery, poultry, fruit, vegetable, milk and meat.

During the campaign, all the assistant commissioners and mukhtiarkars who were assigned their duties to check the official prices took actions against those who violated the prices fixed by the city administration as well as the market committee.

The commissioner directed all the concerned officials that the action should be taken as per law and no leniency be shown to any violator of the lists of the prices fixed

According to the details, 12 milk sellers, 68 fruit sellers, 30 vegetable sellers, 22 meat sellers, 22 sellers of grocery items, 27 poultry sellers and 9 sellers of bakery items were fined.

The Commissioner has asked all the deputy commissioners to ensure that the price lists are also displayed prominently by all the vendors.
