LARKANA:First open heart surgery was performed in the history of Larkana at its NICVD centre here on Saturday.
It was revealed by Dr Fazal Rafique, Dr Ali Raza Mangi, Dr Amin Khawaja, and Dr Javed Siyal during media briefing. They said previously there was no such facility in Larkana due to which cardiac patients had to travel to big cities costing them extra but now it had been made available in Larkana where open heart surgery would be made free of cost so that people of this region could take a sigh of relief.
They disclosed that one heart patient Khalid’s open heart surgery was performed today and now those surgeries would be carried out in Larkana weekly.
They said: “Eight NICVD satellite centers are functioning across Sindh which include Hyderabad, Sehwan, Sukkur, Nawabshah, Khairpur, Tando Muhammad Khan, Mithi and Larkana where free services are being provided to the heart patients.”
They said that kids suffering from hole in the heart would also be treated at those centers and the patients did not need to go abroad for treatment. They said that with the endeavours of NICVD Director Prof Nadeem Qamar, their centers were working satisfactorily in entire Sindh.
They announced that next open heart surgery will be performed in Tando Mohammad Khan and gradually, every center would get this facility.
