Food poisoning death toll rises to six as a woman dies

KARACHI:Food poisoning death toll in Karachi rose to six as an affected woman died on Saturday morning.

The food poisoned woman, Beena Badruddin, aged 28, lost his struggle for life at a city hospital. However, children’s mother survived due to timely treatment at Aga Khan Hospital Karachi. Five children of a family died of the food poisoning on Friday after having food at Naubahar restaurant in Karachi’s Saddar area.

The health of five children and a woman, who was their aunt, deteriorated after they ate the food at the restaurant. Police said the cause of the children’s death was stated to be food poisoning.

A report said that the family also consumed food at an eatery in Balochistan’s Khuzdar area before arriving in Karachi. The police had seized the restaurant in Karachi and got some samples of food served there. The police have also detained 15 employees of the restaurant. Further investigation was underway, the police said.

The victim children’s father, Faisal, had arrived in Karachi from Quetta with his wife Nida, their five children and sister Beena.

In November 2018, two children, who were brothers, died due to food poisoning. They had consumed food at a restaurant in DHA Phase V and later took sweet at a shop.
