Garbage dump, debris hills in front of KU nuisance

Karachi:A spacious garbage dump and hills of debris just in front of the premier varsity of Pakistan, Karachi University, not just depicts the bad taste of KU officials, but also is source of nuisance for hundreds of thousands of commuters that use the University Road, one of the busiest arteries of the megacity.

This unkempt, ignored and foul smelling land is sadly the property of the Karachi University, which is converted into a dumping site of garbage due to the negligence of poor civic sense of the concerned varsity authorities. People throw garbage and trash here freely. Truckloads of debris and garbage are also dumped here almost daily as no KU official is posted to keep this area clean.

Sources said that the KU bosses do not have funds, time and vision to keep the surroundings of this premier university clean. They said there is a portion of KU land on the opposite side of the main Karachi University gate that has been used as garbage dump for a long time. They said there is also land of KWSB which is also turned into garbage hills. They said garbage and pollution near the KWSB lines and installations is also a serious healthcare threat, and this issue should also come under the radar of the Sindh Water Commission. They said a boundary wall could be easily erected around this land of KU, and it could also be used as parking lot, playground or park, but the Karachi University does not have adequate funds to do this.

However, students, parents and teachers, as well as, commuters of the University Road would take a sigh of relief if the honorable Sindh Water Commission, Sindh government, KMC or DMC East take notice of this matter and ensure cleaning the vacant KU plot and erected a boundary wall around it.
