Govt apathy to Sahiwal tragedy regrettable

LAHORE: Deputy chief of the Jamaat e Islami, Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha, has said that the government’s apathy regarding the Sahiwal tragedy and its attempts to delay the matter and bury the issue was a bigger tragedy than the incident itself. He has called for setting up a judicial commission for enquiry into the incident and ensuring exemplary punishment to the killers.

In a statement here on Sunday, he said that in civilized societies, the governments would resign on broad day light intentional murders. However, he said, neither the Punjab Chief Minister not the provincial police chief had tendered his resignation. He said that only some police officers had been reshuffled and an FIR had been filed against some unnamed officials. The result was that the CTD was fully behind the culprits and every effort was being made to get them acquitted by changing stances.

He said it seemed that the rulers were not afraid of the divine retribution or accountability in the hereafter.
