Home based workers welcome legislation for their welfare

KARACHI: Home Based Women Workers Federation (HBWWF) on Saturday held a convention at Arts Council hailing the Sindh government for making a law for the welfare of the home based workers.

Hundreds of women home based workers along with families attended the convention. Minister for Labour Syed Nasir Hussain Shah also attended the convention as chief guest.

The speakers appreciated the move of the Chief Minister Sindh and Labor department to pass law for the benefit of the home based workers for the first time in the country to recognize the rights of the labours and hoped that other provinces will also adopt the example of the Sindh government to assure the rights of the labours in Pakistan.

They said that it is in line of the International Labor Organization’s (ILO) 177th convention which recommends constituting the same laws to safeguard the rights of the workers. The representatives of the workers demanded the implementation of the law so that workers should get benefit from it.
