IGP orders enforcement of Section-144 in coastal area of Karachi

KARACHI: Inspector General of Police Sindh on Friday issued directives for strict implementation of section-144 in coastal area of Karachi after drowning of six person at Gaddani beach.

Following the incident, the IGP in a statement said protection of people’s life was the prime duty of the police, so implementation of Section-144 in coastal area should be ensured at all levels of police.

It should be mentioned here that Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) empowers district administration to issue orders in public interest that may place a ban on an activity for a specific period of time.

The ban is enforced by the police who register cases under section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code for violations of the ban which carry a maximum penalty of six months in prison or fine or both.
