Illegal blood bank sealed off

KARACHI: A Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority (SBTA) team conducted a raid in Lyari Town area of Karachi and seized an unauthorized blood bank for illegal practices and violation of laws.

Director SBTA Dr Durenaz Jamal told PPI the raid was conducted at unregistered Dua Blood Bank in Lyari’s Kakri ground area and it was sealed off. The team has also found various irregularities during raid.

She informed that SBTA team in association with the local police, commissioner and district health officer (DHO) conducted the raid following reports of unethical practices. She further informed that SBTA team also recovered blood bags from freezer. The blood bank was being run without pathologist and technical staff.

Dr Durenaz further said blood bank was being run by unskilled staff, who was selling blood to poor and needy patients.

It is pertinent to mention here that Dua Blood Bak Lyari was sealed in 2018 by Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority (SBTA), but later owner of blood bank reopened it again with the support of local administration.
