Justice (Rtd) Deedar Shah laid to rest in Ratodero

LARKANA:Former Chief Justice of Sindh High Court, Syed Deedar Hussain Shah, passed away in Karachi on Wednesday morning at the age of 80 years. His body was shifted to his native town Ratodero, near here in the evening, where he was laid to rest in the Mubarak Shah graveyard amid tears.

A large number of people took part in his funeral prayers including retired and serving judges of high court and lower courts. Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has expressed his profound grief over the demise of Justice (Rtd) Deedar Hussain Shah.

In his condolence message, the PPP Chairman while paying rich tribute to Justice (Rtd) Shah said that he had served the country diligently and his services for the country were infallible and would always be remembered.

He said that Justice (Rtd) Shah always adhered firmly to the principles on which he never compromised and that he had an upright character with extreme level of tolerance and endurance.

Bilawal sought the Almighty Allah’s blessings for the departed soul for resting him in eternal peace in highest abode of paradise. He also prayed for courage of the aggrieved family to bear this colossal loss.

Syed Deedar Hussain Shah was born on 11-12-1939 in Village Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, District Larkana. He did BA from Sindh University in 1962. He graduated in Law from Sindh University in 1965 and was enrolled as an advocate for subordinate courts with West Pakistan Bar Council on 22-8-1967 and as an Advocate of the High Court on 23-8-1974.

Since then, he had been an active legal practitioner. In 1979, he was elected Member of District Council and remained its member from 1979 to 1983.

Deedar was also elected Chairman, Works Sub- Committee, District Council, Larkana in 1979 and was Chairman of the Council from 1979 to 1983. He was elected unopposed as Chairman, Taluka (Tehsil) Council, Ratodero in 1979 and served the said Council from 1979 to 1983.

He was again elected Member, District Council, Larkana in 1987 and served the said Council from 1987 to 1991. He was also member of the Syndicate of the Sindh Agricultural University.

He was elected Member of Provincial Assembly of Sindh from 30-11-1988 to 6-8-1990 and from 4-11-1990 to 19-7-1993. On 6-61994, he was elevated as Additional Judge of Sindh High Court. His appointment as Additional Judge was regularized as Judge of the Sindh High Court from the date of appointment. Later, he was appointed as Chief Justice of High Court of Sindh. He also served as Judge of the Customs and Taxation Appellant Court in 1996.

Syed Deedar Shah was also appointed as Chairman, NAB, on 8th October 2010 but his appointment was declared illegal by Supreme Court in 2011.
