Karachi records 20000 dog bite cases every year

Karachi: Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar inaugurated the pilot program of Rabies Free Karachi Project in Indus Hospital Korangi on Friday.

He said that garbage heaps lying everywhere in the city was also a cause of rapid dog breeding.

He said that daily up to 150 cases of dog biting are reported in the city and up 20000 reported annually.

He said the victim can die if no immediate medical aid is provided to him. Industrial areas in Karachi suffer more due to stray dogs, he said.

CEO of Indus Hospital Dr Abdul Bari Khan said rabies control drive was being started today. He said so far 1.7 million dog bite patients were treated in the Indus Hospital.

Dr. Nasim Salahuddin said vaccination for rabies was essential and with it dog bite can be cured hundred percent.
