Kumar bars unauthorized checking of vehicles

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawala has strictly forbidden excise police officers and officials for unauthorized checking of the vehicles on roads and highways because it is unwarranted practice and needs to be discouraged immediately.

This he said while issuing directives to all regional directors of Sindh Excise and Taxation. He said, “These checkposts are meant for checking of suspicious vehicles for narcotics only and that the staff posted at these check posts are not allowed to check documents and motor vehicle tax.

Number of complaints is received regarding harassment and unauthorized and unnecessary checking of the papers of the vehicles by excise staff. Chawala said that excise police were not allowed to check each and every vehicle at any place.

For nabbing tax defaulting vehicles, Sindh ET NC Department from time to time announces road checking campaign as per schedule, he said. He directed the supervisory officers to check and prevent their subordinates from unauthorized checking of the vehicles and take necessary action against those who violate the departmental directives.

“Any kind of illegal activity of stopping vehicles and unloading them must be stopped and in future, there should be no such complaints; otherwise, strict action will be taken against the officers concerned,” he warned.
