Mayor gives details of KMDC convocation

Karachi: Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar on Monday said the 5th Convocation of the Karachi Medical & Dental College will be a new milestone for the college, as this convocation is being held on the silver jubilee of the KMDC. He hoped that the Prime Minister of Pakistan will attend the convocation as chief guest.

He was addressing a press conference held in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Head Office regarding the 5th Convocation of the Karachi Medical & Dental College which is scheduled to be held on the 31st March.

Chairman Finance Committee Nadeem Hidayat Hashmi, Chairperson Medical Committee Naheed Fatima, Senior Director Medical Services Dr. Beerbal, Vice Principal Prof. Dr. Mehmood Haider, Secretary Convocation Prof. Dr. Nasir Ali Khan and other officers were also present on this occasion.

The mayor said that after a gap of five years the convocation of KMDC was being held. He said the annual admissions at this college are now 100 which were previously 50.

He said this college was established in 1991 and since then it is one of the major medical institutions in the megacity.

Akhtar said about 917 graduates who completed their study from 2013 to 2017 would get their degrees in the convocation including 572 MBBS and 345 BDS degrees.

He said the students of this college got distinctions in the University Examinations and also held positions and such students will be awarded with gold medals on this event.

To a question, he said the directives of Chief Justice of Pakistan are quite right for cleaning of Karachi and everyone want the megacity to be clean.

He said in past the DMCs used to remove the garbage and with the setting up of Sindh Solid Waste Management Board this responsibility was entrusted to the board. The SSWMB should have performed its duty in an excellent manner but no such thing happened and it is quite surprising that no audit of the Board was conducted since 2014.
