Misbehavior with patients become common at NICH

KARACHI:The misbehavior and rude attitude of clerical staff with patient’s attendants at Emergency Department of National Institute of Child Health (NIC) has become routine in evening & night shifts and hospital administration was out of wits to control this practice.

The clerical staff posted at Emergency Department of NICH is forcefully referring the children with emergency requirement in next day OPDs instead of giving them receipts to get treatment from doctors at emergency department. The misbehavior of staff has compelled patients attendants to shift their babies to private health facilities.

“It’s become common practice in emergency department in evening and night shifts that the clerical staff decides on their own whether to shift patient in emergency or refers to next day OPD,” sources at NICH told PPI.

A similar incident also happened a day ago, when parents brought his ailing baby to emergency department with breathing problems. The clerical staff had refused to register patient and asked to bring child next day in OPD hours as patient’s condition is satisfactory and he does not required any emergency treatment.

The parents approached shift administrator and lodged his complain. The administrator resented the family to clerical staff but lady receptionist got infuriated over lodging complaint against her. The lady clerk misbehaved with family which compelled parent to shift ailing baby to private hospital.

The rude attitude of clerical staff with visitors and patient attendants has become routine in health facility in evening and night shift.
