Moot links survival of Pakistan to defense capabilities

Karachi:Speakers at a meeting of Shura Hamdard Karachi chapter while strongly condemning the recent Indian atrocities against Kashmiris said that Pakistan is safe and secure because of its atomic power, war machine and fighting skills and that must be kept steady to thwart any aggression by India in the wake of recent Indian move in occupied Kashmir.

The meeting was held here last evening on the theme: “72 years of Pakistan – what was achieved and lost”, chaired by Justice (Rtd) Haziqul Khairi at Hamdard Corporate Office, Karachi. Mrs. Sadia Rashid, President, Shura Hamdard Pakistan was also present at the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Commodore (retd) Sadeed Anwar Malik said that great achievement of Pakistan was to become an atomic power; he termed it as the greatest success in 72 years of Pakistan as it was the lone Islamic country with nuclear power in the world.

‘Pakistanis over the years have proved themselves as resilient and capable people; they have enough potential all they need now is guidance and will,’ he added.

He said, we lost half of the country; however, nations learned from their bitter experience, so we did. The act of nationalization of industries and educational institutions was totally wrong as it stopped country’s educational and industrial development. General Ayub’s government got 10 years to continue, and had such ten years given to Benazir government Pakistan would have made more progress than Ayub era and the problem of Karachi’s mass transit system would also have been solved, he maintained.

Emphasizing the need of promoting education in the country he said that spreading of education would also reduce the growth of population, a dire need of the hour.

Justice (retd) Haziqul Khari said, we should raise our voice at every international forum against Indian aggressive steps, taken by them to curb the struggle of Kashmiris for freedom and do whatever we can for the freedom of Kashmir.

Prof. Dr. Akhlaque Ahmed said: We got Pakistan after the great sacrifices, made by the Muslims of subcontinent. Our country was running well, but the catastrophes of terrorism fell upon us and slow down the progress of the country.

Eng. Syed Pervez Sadique said, the two-nation theory of Quaid-e-Azam proved right as the leaders of occupied Kashmir admitted that their elders had made a mistake to comprehend this theory.

“We Pakistanis are resilient people and nobody can destroy us as we get united at the time of national crisis, only we lack of tolerance, talk too much on religion and politics, but do not follow the teachings of religion and avoid to cast vote in general elections,’ he observed.

Engineer Anwarul Haq Siddiqui was of the view that there was a golden opportunity to have Kashmir when occupied Kashmir was empty from Indian forces in 1962 due to India – China war, but, alas, committing a big mistake this chance had been lost. Similarly starting of 1965 war was also a big mistake by the then rulers, he said, adding that this war had destroyed the continuity of Pakistan’s tremendous development and economic growth.

‘Pakistan’s political system has become individualistic instead of institutionalized, that’s why country badly needs political, social, educational and economic reforms,’ he asserted.

Anwar Aziz Jakartawalla was also of the opinion that our political system fell prey on family dynasties which had brought public mentality to low level and deprived us of new and vigorous leadership.

Col (retd) Mukhtar Ahmed Butt said, there was no rule of law in the country and without it no country could become a peaceful and developed country. General Musharraf had tried to raise the standard of parliament by imposing condition of graduation for its members, but it was set aside by the subsequent government.

Dr. Abubakr Sheikh said that the western political thinkers regarded Pakistan as torch-bearer of ‘Political Islam’ while Pakistan had nothing to do with that. Moreover, Pakistan was compelled to be a part of this problem or its solution. New generation lamented that the old generation which was the recipient of Pakistan and took all benefits also damaged the country to a large extent, he maintained.

Salim Moghal, Director, Programmes and Publications said that China had laid down the foundation of its development on education and stories, because it was stories that made children to think and improve their imaginations. Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said’s life could be characterised by three things: Pakistan, education and children, he added.

Shura Hamdard in a unanimous resolution strongly condemned the atrocities committed by the Indian army and despicable step, taken by the Indian government in occupied Kashmir. In another resolution, Shura condoled the deaths of its member, Haq Nawaz Akhtar and famous poet, Himayat Ali Shair.
