Naundero’s girls college faces shortage of teaching, non-teaching staff

LARKANA: Bad governance is still prevailing in Sindh as BPS-18 Subject Specialist is working since long as Principal, Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Naundero. She is also accused of not relieving about 200 girl students to join nearby Girls College who have cleared their annual Matric exam. Six lecturers were transferred out of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Government Girls Degree College (SMBBGGD) during caretaker set up without provision of substitute ignoring acute shortage of teaching staff.

According to details, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Government Girls Degree College (SMBBGGD), Naundero, is facing multifarious problems which need to be resolved on emergency basis for the betterment of girls education which is being assigned top priority by the present 3rd time elected PPP government. The college was built in 2012 but remained dysfunctional for unknown reasons for next three years till 2015.

After which it was gradually made operational and at the moment, approximately 600 girl students are enrolled but they face acute shortage of teaching, non-teaching staff and other essential facilities. Reliable sources told this scribe on Saturday that College Education Secretary Lubna Salahuddin transferred six lecturers within 15 days from this college without any cogent reason which include one of Islamiat subject (despite the fact that she was the only one lecturer), lecturers of Chemistry and English and three lecturers of Urdu.

People of Naundero have demanded that it should be thoroughly probed as to why education secretary transferred these lecturers ignoring the education goals established by the United Nations and education of the girls. These sources claimed that transferred lecturers paid huge amounts for their shifting from one college to another. These sources said that out of 12 lecturers, seven have been transferred which shows the seriousness of the rulers towards girls higher education. Posts of Associate Professors are lying vacant.

Science material including microscopes, chemicals and other related equipment is not available and is urgently needed for which letters have been sent but the response is so far nil. Sources further said that about 200 girl students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Naundero, are not being released by the principal who have passed matriculation exam to join this girls college for unknown reasons for which the citizens have demanded that higher secondary status of boys and girls schools of Naundero should be withdrawn so that proper education is imparted at proper institutions. The girls are being forced to study in the school by the principal despite the fact that there are no trained and qualified teachers as she herself is a subject specialist and don’t take classes. The residents and parents have demanded of the Sindh Government to fill all vacant posts in the girls college and school on merit to establish good governance.

The girls college badly needs creation of new posts which include 10 posts each of lecturers and assistant professors, five associate professors and one DPE for which SNE has been sent but is pending approval since long. The college also require six security guards, four sweepers, five Malhis, five Naib Qasids, 4 each laboratory attendants and assistants, 4 each junior and senior clerks, librarian with library books, 50 latest computers with UPS, chairs, tables and with internet facility.

Students told this Scribe that only three classes are running in the college at the moment which include XII, B.Sc Part-1 and Part-2.

The students added that classes of XI are not being made functional due to non-arrival of the students from girls higher secondary school as the principal is not issuing them required documents. The students also complained about bad washrooms where there is neither water nor light and they are not being washed regularly hence bad smell is always coming out. The citizens have also objected over the establishment of a canteen inside the girls higher secondary school where men are working unlawfully. It should be investigated who permitted them for the canteen and who was beneficiary, they further demanded.
