New book launched on rich history of Sindh

Karachi:Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah performed the launching ceremony of a new innovative book revealing rich history of Sindh like information about Sindhi Hindu actress Sheela Kewalramani who ruled Bollywood in 1950s and 60s, besides informing about Hasho Kewalramani, a visionary literary figure of Sindh who went missing in India after the partition.

The book entitled as ‘Bharawar Khaan Bhirya – Taareekh jo Safarr’, has been written by Naseer Ejaz, a former Editor of Pakistan Press International (PPI), a premier news agency of Pakistan, and a renowned writer. The launching ceremony was held at Karachi Press Club. The book brings out a rich research work about the history of Sindh which will help students of history and politics in their research studies.

Speaking on the occasion, noted students political leader Asif Baladi said that Naseer Ejaz had written an excellent book that had highlighted rare history of Sindh. He said that it was a great work of Naseer Ejaz who had also highlighted16000 people of Bhirya region who fought with Arab intruders led by Mohammad Bin Qasim in Sindh. “Arabs could not have defeated Sindh’s Raja Dahar if they had not used small-type of chemical firecrackers during the attack on Sindh. At that time, the fighters of Sindh did not have any weapons technology, however, they fought daringly.

Commenting on other rich history of Sindh highlighted in the book, Baladi said that India’s famous actress of Sheela Kewalramani was a Sindhi speaking Hindu and was a resident of Bhirya town of district Naunshero Feroz, which was earlier linked to district Khairpur Mirs. She ruled the Bollywood in 1950s and 60s. “Her greatness is that she also took part in Miss Shimla, a beauty queen contest and clinched the award, which gave proof that women of Sindh are also competent,” Baladi observed.

It may be noted that Sheela’s famous movies are Anand Math (1952), Surang (1953), Taxi Driver (1954), Teen Batti Char Raasta (1953), Naukri (1954), Mangu (1954), Meenar (1954), Railway Platform (1955), Funtoosh (1956), Anokhi (1956), Abana – Sindhi (1958), Jungle King (1959), The Return of Mr. Superman (1960) and Awara Larki (1967).

Noted journalist Karam Ali Shah of APP said that the book had been written excellently as it was like a PhD thesis. “It not only covers history of Bhirya town, but also highlights major history of Sindh in great way. After leaving PPI, Naseer Ejaz had done a great literary work for which he had visited various parts of Sindh to seek history of the province.

“The students of Sindh must read this book for getting knowledge. “With reading of this book, it seems that we are having a journey of Sindh,” Karam observed.

Senior Sindh MPA Syed Murad Ali Shah said that Bhirya is a model town of Sindh with higher literary rate. Despite being a small town, it has created great politicians, educationists and bureaucrats. He said: “Our family politicians, including me, have been constantly elected from 1936 to till today and I am the most senior MPA in Sindh Assembly, which is also a record. And this credit also goes to Bhirya town” The long winning history in the polls is owing to our work in the area.” He appreciated Naseer Ejaz for writing the innovative book on Bhiyra and history of Sindh.

A noted writer of Sindh, Hamsafar Gadhi, said that that Naseer Ejaz had proved to be a history writer despite being a journalist professionally. It has been proved now that a journalist could also write a good book as he keeps lot of knowledge of things, Baladi said.

Manzoor Lashari applauded the book and said that people of Sindh must purchase this book and read it thoroughly to get knowledge of their province. Musrat Khawaja said that Naseer Ejaz had created his name in Sindh while working in Hilal-e-Pakistan. The book is great source for the knowledge of Sindh, he added.

Rakhial Morai said that the level of the book was a greatest as the writer had highlighted all sectors of Sindh, particularly history, in a good way as reading this book gives a pleasure. He said that there was need to write such more books to show history of Sindh to new generations. The language of the book is excellent and things had been described in best way.

Dr Hameed also spoke on the occasion. The ceremony was also attended by senior journalists and literary figures including KPC President Imtiaz Faran, Nawaz Khuhro and Waheed Rajpar.

Earlier, Naseer Ejaz thanked MPA Murad Ali Shah and other distinguished guests for attending the book launching ceremony.
