NICVD Sukkur successfully performing open heart surgeries

KARACHI: National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in collaboration with Government of Sindh launched open heart surgeries program at NICVD Sukkur totally free of cost.

The first open heart bypass surgery for three vessel diseases was performed by NICVD team led by Chief of Cardiac Surgery, Prof Fazle Rabbi and first open heart ASD closure has been done of a female patient with an atrial septal defect. A total three open heart surgeries have been performed successfully to date. All patients are stable and recovering well.

With efforts of Executive Director NICVD Prof Nadeem Qamar and Leader of Opposition at National Assembly Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah with the endless support of Sindh government today, NICVD Sukkur is providing state-of-the-art cardiac services including facilities of heart bypass and other cardiac surgeries.

Getting good health services in Pakistan has always been an expensive idea but NICVD has started to provide quality heart healthcare services to common man without any charges. NICVD has always been striving hard to serve the nation in the shape of providing best services with quality care and easy access. This 300-bedded cardiac hospital is the place which not only caters the population of Sukkur but also patients from upper Sindh, southern Punjab and Balochistan province.

At commencement of Cardiac Surgery Services , Prof Nadeem Qamar stated that this is a huge achievement of National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases to initiate open heart surgery services at NICVD Sukkur100% free, because this major cardiac surgery used to be done only in big cities of the country or abroad. With initiation of cardiac surgery facilities, we will be able to provide comprehensive cardiology care to the patient.

NICVD aims at bridging the gap of heart healthcare across Sindh province and ensuring that we provide specialized care at the doorstep of every needy patient. In near future paediatric cardiac surgeries will also be initiated here.

He informed that a total of 2409 patients visited cardiac emergency, 715 patients were admitted for further management, 1109 were provided outpatient services and 297 had echocardiography test performed since February 24, 2018 at NICVD Sukkur. Total 152 patients underwent life-saving intervention out of which 67 had primary PCI and 85 had early invasive intervention.

Speaking about services of cardiac surgery, Leader of Opposition in National Assembly, Syed Khurshid Shah at NICVD Sukkur congratulated NICVD and government of Sindh for performing successful open heart surgeries at Sukkur. He said that this 300-bedded State-of-the-Art cardiac hospital is providing Cardiac Emergency Care, Primary PCI (Angioplasty during Heart Attack), Echocardiography, Adult &Paediatric Cardiology and Consulting Clinics.

He praised that in future, NICVD and Sindh government jointly will continue to serve the people of Sindh with dedication, commitment and vision. He further wished success to NICVD for its future projects and reiterates his support.
