PILER flays raid on labour fed office

KARACHI:Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research (PILER) has condemned the “unauthorized” raid by police on the office of Muttahida Labour Federation in Lahore the other day on the pretext to arrest a worker belonging to PEL company.

In a statement issued here on Monday, PILER’s Executive Director Karamat Ali pointed out that MLF is the largest workers’ body in the country and the police raid without any legal formalities at the Baloch Labour Hall was tantamount to harassment of the workers and trade union members.

The police informed the workers present on the occasion that they were searching for a worker of the PEL Company.

He demanded of the Punjab police, provincial home minister and chief minister Punjab to take notice of the raid on the office of MLF in Lahore and take action against the responsible police personnel.

It may be mentioned here that a trade union of PEL factory is protesting for their rights and the police raided the office of MLF to suppress the agitation.

PILER expressed solidarity with the protesting workers of PEL and MLF.
