Pink Ribbon walk in Larkana

LARKANA:A Pink Ribbon awareness walk was taken out from Shahnawaz Bhutto Memorial Library which after marching through various roads culminated at Chandka Medical College for raising awareness about Breast Cancer here on Wednesday.

The walk was participated by senior and junior doctors of Chandka Medical College (CMC) and their students.

A seminar was also organised in which Dean and Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics Dr. Rafia Baloch, CMC Principal Prof. K Das, Dean and Prof. Ghulam Murtaza Pathan, Dr. Sara Fatima and others addressed the gathering which was attended by large number of male and female students and doctors.

The speakers told the gathering that the month of October is celebrated worldwide as Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Prof Rafia Baloch in her address said that after Rawalpindi, Larkana is the only city where Tumor Boards are weekly held on regular basis which include Bone Cancer, Gynecology Cancer, Urology Cancer and Surgery Cancer.

She said major cause of cancer is fast food, soft drinks, low quality and improper food and exercise. She said nowadays women are avoiding breast feeding and that also can be one of the major causes of breast cancer. She said in foreign countries working mothers keep their breast milk in freezers for their children before going to their work adding mother can keep her milk safe for one year in freezer.

Surgeon Dr. Sara Fatima said that according latest research cancer can be treated but she added precaution or prevention is always better than treatment and cure. She said aged unmarried women are mostly affected by breast cancer having no children. She disclosed that one percent men are also infected by breast cancer along with 99% of women.

She said rural women reach the hospital when they are at the last stage and due to lack of awareness breast cancer affected women are mostly divorced.

She advised every woman to get mammography after 35 years age and consult her lady doctor to learn the ways of how to check her breasts. Female medical students attended the seminar by wearing pinks scarfs
