LAHORE:Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Wednesday said that Punjab law enforcing agencies would launch joint crackdown along with Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) to cleanse the province of the menace of drugs in line with the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
These views were expressed by Mr Usman Buzdar in a meeting with Minister for Narcotics Control and SAFRON Shehryar Khan Afridi who called on the chief minister here at CM Office. ANF Regional Director Lahore Khalid Mehmood Goraya, Commissioner Afghan Refugees Punjab and other officials were also present on the occasion.
Shehryar Afridi briefed the Punjab Chief Minister on the ANF campaign launched to cleanse the country of the menace of drugs. He informed the chief minister of the recent raids launched by the ANF against drug barons and told the chief minister that the cooperation from provincial governments was mandatory to make the country drugs-free.
Afridi told the chief minister that drugs mafia had targeted youth of Pakistan and young students were falling victim to drugs as drug mafia was active in and around educational institutions. The minister informed the chief minister that the students under social pressures fall victim to drugs in race for higher grades.
“We are fighting a war against drugs mafia to save our youth which being 65 percent of our population is our future and biggest asset. Let’s join hands to launch a joint war against drugs mafia,” the minister told the chief minister Punjab.
Usman Buzdar lauded the great cause adopted by Shehryar Afridi and his team and said that Punjab Government would love to join the sacred war to save its youth from the menace of drugs. He said that being the biggest province of the country, Punjab would lead the war on drugs and all the provincial law enforcing agencies would be at disposal of the ANF to curb the menace of drugs.
Shehryar Afridi also briefed the chief minister on his recent visit to Afghanistan and told that federal government was taking all necessary measures to ensure honourable repatriation of Afghan refugees. The meeting also decided that Shehryar Afridi would also hold an open court in Mianwali soon to address the problems being faced by the Afghan refugees.
