LARKANA:On the call of Larkana Awami Ittehad (LAI), thousands of Larkanaites took out a rally entitled “Corruption Mitayo – Larkano Bachayo” here on Thursday.
The rally, after marching through various roads, reached the office of Larkana Mayor Aslam Shaikh and staged a sit-in. The protesters included the activists of Peoples Party Workers, JSQM, JUI-Functional, JSM, Shia Ulema Council, Shaheri Ittehad and others.
Convener LAI Haji Munwar Ali Abbasi while addressing the participants, said that destruction of Larkana had been done willfully and the hometown of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto forgotten for obtaining personal gains by the rulers.
He said they were not others but the members of Zardari group. Maulana Nasir Mahmood Soomro said that their protest was not against mayor Aslam Shaikh but against Zardari. He warned that even after this massive protest if conditions of Larkana are not improved then in next phase there will be Dama Dam Mast Qalandar responsibility of which will be on district and municipal administrations. He said Larkana has been made a town of garbage where streets and roads remain submerged into sewerage water, heaps of garbage are lying everywhere and now in the name of removing encroachments residents are being rendered unemployed. He alleged that Larkana mayor has embezzled huge funds meant for trolleys, sanitation staff and other employees. He said mayor Aslam must resign for his utter failure to maintain cleanliness in the city. He said the PPP has done injustice with people because Aslam Shaikh is a shopkeeper who cannot serve the citizens because he is incompetent and unknown to the problems of the city. He said Larkana has been ruined.
Dr. Safdar Abbasi said that that Larkana has been converted into the ruins by the rulers openly and daringly. He said due to a sorrowful song Bilawal Bhutto Zardari took notice of the issues faced by Larkanians but no improvement has so far been made.
JSM Chairman Riaz Chandio said that the PPP leadership is in deep sleep due to which Larkana has been ignored. He said it also seems that there is no district administration or any municipal corporation because where-ever I have gone I found destruction. He said where is NAB in Sindh adding when NAB can put Nawaz Sharif in jail then why those who have destroyed Sindh are still free.
MPA Moazim Ali Abbasi said that such rallies and sit-ins shall continue till conditions in Larkana are not improved. He said our peaceful protests can also change and then mayor will escape. He said in next assembly session voice will be raised about prevailing very poor situation of Larkana.
