Rulers unmoved over deaths in drought-hit Thar: Haleem Adil Sheikh

Karachi: Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Sindh leader Haleem Adil Sheikh has regretted that the Sindh government is still unmoved over the deaths of malnourished children in the drought-stricken Thar.

According to details, a four-member parliamentary delegation of the PTI, led by Haleem Adil, reached Umerkot Tharparkar on a two-day visit. Other members of the delegation were PMA Dr Imran Ali Shah, Dr Sanjey Gangwani, and MPA Dua Bhutto.

The delegation visited the Civil Hospitals of Umerkot, Chachro and Mithi, inquired about the health of the admitted children and distributed relief material amongst them.

Talking to media, Haleem Adil said that every year a large number of children die in Thar in the drought season but the government has not taken any preventive steps as yet. He alleged that the ministers of the provincial government are only concerned about to maximize their own wealth. He said this is the 11th year of the present rulers, but still the children of poor people are dying in Sindh. He said not a single serious step has been as yet taken to benefit the people of Tharparkar on permanent basis.

He charged the government hospitals face shortage of doctors and medicines but the provincial rulers have no sympathy for the children of the poor.

Haleem Adil commented that if the children of the ministers fall ill they are treated in most expensive hospitals here and abroad. He alleged that the Sindh rulers committed mega corruption of billions of rupees in uplift schemes of Tharparkar. He said 750 RO plants were approved through favourite suppliers and out of them 350 were installed but soon they become faulty and dysfunctional. He said the largest RO plant of Asia is also dysfunctional, which shows the extent of corruption in these projects.

He said billions of rupees have already been spent but the fate of the people of Thar is still to be changed. He said tents and wheat donated for the people of Thar were also not safe the corruption of the greedy ministers.

He said four mobile medical units were approved but two of them went to the home town of Chief minister Sindh, while the remaining two are only limited to Mithi. He said the condition of government dispensaries in the far-flung areas is pathetic. They are not getting proper budget. He said the Sindh government is showing betterment only on paper. He said we will compile a comprehensive report on the whole area and submit it to the Prime Minister. He said the Prime Minister already knows about these issues and soon the relief activities of the federal government would be started in Tharparkar.

Haleem said in Umerkot and Tharparkar our party workers are facing political vendetta and fake cases. He said some employees are being transferred to far-flung areas because the people of this area have given vote to the PTI. He said the SSP should identify the back sheep in his police force.
