SAB demands opening wheat procurement centers in Sindh

LARKANA:Sindh Abadgar Board (SAB) has announced to stage a massive sit-in against non-establishment of wheat procurement centers in Sindh on 5th May at Jinnah Bagh.

This was decided in a meeting of Sindh Agricultural Council, Abadgar Ittehad other growers’ organizations and SAB.

Growers’ leaders said after destruction of sugarcane growers, wheat tillers are also subjected to economic destruction. They said wheat crop is being harvested but Sindh government has neither fixed any price nor it has announced any policy as yet.

They said it was the job of the government to give required rate to the poor tillers. They said that provincial governments of Punjab, KP and Balochistan were doing their jobs but Sindh Government has so far failed to protect the rights of the farmers and growers. They alleged Sindh government of preparing policy in connivance with traders which could be harmful for growers.

They said usually policy was declared on 15th March every year but it is end of April now but nothing has so far been announced due to which tillers are facing huge losses.

They said protests were held, even petition was filed in the SHC but Sindh government did not move. They appealed to Sindh Chief Minister and Food Minister to open wheat procurement centers in Sindh by 5th May.

While the growers will be compelled for stage a massive sit-in for their rights. The meeting was attended by Abdul Qadeer Memon, Mumtaz Ali Jatoi, Muhammad Khan Hakro, and Jamal Mahmood Khuhro from Khairpur, Hisam Shah and others.
