SHC orders preparation of psychological disordered patients data

KARACHI:Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday directed Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintends (SPs) of Police to form a data pertaining to the patients suffering from psychological disorders.

A two-member bench of the SHC heard a plea filed by Erum Shaheen against Sindh government for not providing government’s medical services to the patients of psychological disorders. The bench ordered the commissioners, DCs and SPs to get information of psychological disorder patients at public places, graveyards and tombs.

The bench also sought scores of detained psychological disordered patients from prisons of Sindh and directed the IGP Sindh to submit a list of patients suffering from such health problems.

The SHC questioned which facilities are being provided to psychological disordered patients by the Sindh health department. It also asked the all session judges to check the conditions of detained patients in prisons.

‘’It is the responsibility of the government to provide free medical services to those suffering from psychological disorders.’’ The bench remarked.

The petitioner, Erum Shaheen, stated before the bench that her sister was suffering from psychological disorder so she should be provided free medical services.
