SHC orders Sindh govt to submit reply in plea seeking IGP’s empowerment

KARACHI:Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday ordered provincial government of Sindh to submit its reply until 12th November in a plea seeking empowerment of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Dr Kaleem Imam.

A two-member bench of the SHC heard a plea filed by citizens and civil society personalities seeking reissuance of notice of IGP Kaleem Imam’s appointment and ensuring his empowerment.

The Sindh government sought more time for submitting its reply. Additional Advocate General (AAG) Sindh informed the bench that a latter has already been written to Chief Secretary and others for their response.

He pleaded the court for one month time for submission of reply but the court said that he must submit the reply by November 12.

The petitioner stated that court had ordered legislation for empowerment of IGP. He said after the court orders, legislation was held regarding the restoration and amendment of Police Order 2002.

Petitioner stated IGP Sindh should be given powers of transfers and appointment of policemen. He stated IGP Sindh has no need to get permission from Chief Minister regarding appointments and transfers.

The petitioner requested the court to issue orders pertaining to the reissuance of IGP Sindh Dr Kaleem Imam’s appointment notification.
