SHC puts authorities on notice on plea against ‘illegal’ marriage hall

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday sought comments from Sindh Building Control Association (SBCA) director general, home secretary and Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Korangi on the plea against marriage hall allegedly built illegally in the residential area.

A division bench was hearing a petition filed by a citizen Tanveer Ahmed, submitting that a marriage hall has illegally been constructed in Model Colony in the area which was purely for the residential purpose. He said that the inhabitants of area have facing severe hardships due to the commercial hall but authorities concerned were not willing to remove the same.

Citing SBCA, police and home secretary and anti-encroachment cell as the respondents, the petitioner prayed to the court to order the authorities concerned for demolishing the marriage hall built ‘illegally’ in the residential area.

The court warned the petitioner that he would be fined if his claim proved wrong, while remarking that the people use to approach the court for their own interest.

Issuing notices to above mentioned respondents and the provincial law officer, the bench sough their respective comments by the next hearing.
