SIUT to hold Intel workshop on robotic surgery

KARACHI:A three-day multidisciplinary international workshop on robotic surgery opens at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) on January 17, 2019. For the first time three important disciplines of surgery including general surgery, urology and gynecology will be exclusively discussed and focused on each day by a team of SIUT surgeons who will perform robotic surgical procedures along with their international counter parts.

Robotic surgery is considered to be the surgery of the future in the world of medical sciences. This futuristic surgery has been described as enormously beneficial procedure for any surgical patient as it is less invasive and patients are released quickly without as compared to traditional surgical procedure. Tertiary care hospitals the world over prefers to acquire the skills of this technology as a part of keeping themselves abreast with new technology in specialized fields.

Prominent overseas surgeons who will be a part in the workshop include Prof Shamim Khan of King’s College, Prof Matin Khalid Sheriff from Guy and St Thomas Hospital of London, Dr Tariq Tasaddaq Consulting Urologist from University College London, Dr Faiz Mumtaz Consultant Urologist of Royal Free Hospital London, Prof. Amjad Pervaiz from NHS Foundation Trust and Ms Kankipati Shanti Raju who is Consulting Gynecologist at Guy’s and St Thomas Hospitals of London.

Director SIUT Prof Adib Rizvi will open the workshop proceedings. Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi and Dow University of Health Sciences are also collaborating in the workshop.
