Sports: Cricket: Farhan powers SBP to big win in Naya Nazimabad Ramadan Cup

Karachi:Fast emerging international Sahibzada Farhan played a brilliant 90-run knock to help State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to a massive 186 runs victory over minnows Rehman Foundation in the 5th edition of Naya Nazimabad Ramadan Cup T20 Cricket Tournament here at Friday night.

Farhan, who had shown a lot of promise while representing Islamabad United in Pakistan Super League, was caught in the deep for 90 while another international Mukhtar Ahmed made 69 runs.

Opting to bat first SBP piled up 238 for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs against struggling Rehman Foundation bowling. The opening pair of Farhan and Mukhtar gave their team a flying start of 169 runs in 73 balls as they plundered the bowling. Mukhtar was dismissed for 69 and his 37-ball knock was studded with seven fours and brace of sixes.

Farhan, who was in a punishing mood, was also caught in deep for 90 trying for his 7th six. He faced 49 ball clubbed eight fours and hoisted half a dozen sixes.  Lately Israrullah slammed 29 in 18 deliveries with three fours and one six and Pakistan reject Kamran Akmal smashed two sixes and as many fours in his 11 ball cameo.

Despite hammering of Rehman Foundation bowlers, Rafay Safdar ended with respectable figures 2 for 28 in four overs.

Inexperience Rehman Foundation team in reply was dismissed for mere 79 in the 18th over. Number ten batsman Sohail Afzal top-scored with 25 in 18 balls and hitting three towering sixes. Spinners Daniyal Rajput took two for 11, Test player Zulfiqar Babar claimed two wickets for 27 runs and pacer Taj Wali got two wickets without conceding a run.

Sahibzada Farhan won the match award of Rs.5000 for his superb batting.
