Sports: Hockey: Asian Youth Olympic Games Qualifiers rescheduled after Oman pulls out

Karachi: The schedule for Men’s and Women’s Asian Youth Olympic Games Qualifiers 2018 has been revised after Oman withdrew their participation from the event.

However, the tournament dates remain unchanged. The tournament will start from the April to 25 to 29 in Bangkok, Thailand. The tournament, as well as, the Youth Olympic Games Hockey Competition will follow a Hockey 5’s format. Players ranging from ages between 15 and 18 years old will showcase their talent in the 5-day long event.

Two teams from each category, Men’s and Women’s, will qualify for the Youth Olympic Games 2018 to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Hockey was introduced at the Youth Olympic Games in the 2010 edition. The inaugural edition was an outdoor hockey event, in which Australia won the gold medal, defeating Pakistan by 2-1.

In 2014, Hockey 5’s was introduced, and Australia again emerged victorious, beating Canada 3-2 on penalty strokes, after a 3-3 standard time finish. The Women’s edition was won by Netherlands in 2010 and China in 2014.

Men’s Pool A:

India, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong (China), Thailand.

Men’s Pool B:

Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Cambodia.

Women’s Pool A:

China, Japan, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong (China).

Women’s Pool B:

Korea, India, Thailand, Singapore.
