Sugar rate falls after supply improves

Karachi: Rate of sugar in wholesale market of Karachi came down sharply after the supply of the commodity improved.

Market sources said that during last four days the rate of sugar in wholesale has fallen by Rs2 and now it is being sold at Rs46per kilogram. However, the retail price of sugar in the city is Rs50per kilogram and it is expected that it would come down soon as huge stock of sugar is present in the market.

It is said that the monopoly practices of sugar millers has artificially risen the price of this kitchen commodity and if the anti-monopoly entities take action the rate of sugar will further decrease. It may be noted that the rates of sugar in the international market are also on decline as people in developed countries have become more health-centred and the consumption of white sugar is on sharp decline.
