Three-storey building collapse in Karachi kills three; several injured

KARACHI: A three-storey building collapsed in Jafar Tayyar Society in Karachi’s Malir area on Monday morning, killing three people and injuring several others.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene and pulled out five injured people from the rubble including a woman and a child. They were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.

The building collapsed at about 7:00 am. Three families were living in it. The building was stated to be 30 years old.

Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shalwani and police also rushed to the scene and guided rescue operation.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the incident and ordered inquiry into it. He also directed Karachi commissioner to monitor the rescue work. Sindh Governor Imran Ismail ordered swift rescue operation to save more people trapped under the rubble. He also expressed sorrow and grief over the loss of lives and injuries of people.
