Tree plantation drive launched in Badin

BADIN:Ghulam Mehdi Shah, Additional Deputy Commissioner-I, Badin on Monday underlined the need for increasing the forest cover to overcome environmental hazards.

He urged this while addressing the participants of an awareness raising walk after launching a tree plantation drive in Badin. The walk started from Deputy Commissioner Office, which marching on main wayfarers of the city, culminated at the Govt Boys High School Badin. It was participated by hundreds of participants including school going children, teachers, govt officials from different district departments, representatives of civil society, LHDP, HANDS, representatives of District Scout Badin and others. Addressing the event participants, Shah stressed the school heads, representatives of civil society, NGOs and govt officials to involve the youths in tree plantation drive in order to make it a success. He said that the staff of the all departments of the district should be activated to ensure proper forestation in their respective areas.

“In order to promote social forestry, the youth throughout the district should be associated to forestation plans,” he said. Shah expressed that people from every walk of life should realize their responsibilities and come forward to take part in the drive and district administration would facilitate them so that the district’s eco-friendly environment could be developed.

He hoped that the government could touch the task of planting trees in the district with cooperation of people belonging to all walks of life of district Badin including representatives of civil society, NGOs and others.

He called upon the school heads, boy scouts, NGOs and others to initiate the activity in their respective localities by ensuring participation of youth and people from different walks of life by planting at least a singl plant individually as it is the national responsibility of every citizen.
