Water scarcity: Johi growers stage demo against MNA Jamali

LARKANA: The growers of Johi Taluka of Dadu district held a protest demonstration in front of Bhutto mausoleum in Garhi Khuda Bux on Thursday against acute irrigation water scarcity.

Eight water sources of the area, including Chinjani, Dara, Noonari, Lakha, Pahore, Pithoro water channels facing water scarcity. The protesters were holding placards in their hands and chanting slogans against irresponsible authorities. Protesters included Amin Wagho, Ghulam Qadir Rind, Mehar Gadhi, Jhando Laghari, and Ayoob Rodhrani.

Talking to newsmen, they alleged that since past two months, they had been protesting against acute water shortage in all irrigation water channels of Johi but no elected representative had taken notice of their cries including Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah. They said they voted in favour of MNA Rafique Jamali but he had now turned himself as their our biggest enemy as he was stealing irrigation water of eight water channels for his own lands.

They were weeping while making complaint to the graves of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto that MNA Rafique Jamali had forcibly stopped their water share due to which their families would be starving. They further complained that they had been voting PPP since its birth but the situation they were facing now was unmatched.

They demanded of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to take notice of the highhandedness of Rafique Jamali, take stern action against him, provide justice and save poor families from starvation.
