World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims

Karachi:Students of Department of Mass Communication, University of Karachi in collaboration with Traffic Police Sindh celebrated the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.

The event began with the road traffic awareness by Inspector Ali Suhag and his team and at the end of participants lit candles in remembrance of road accident victims. Certificate of participation in road safety awareness program were distributed among students.

Organizer of the event Tahira Tariq informed audience that the objective of organizing this event was to create Road Traffic Awareness by remembering road accident victims and learning how to avoid such accidents in future.

This day is being celebrated by the western world since 2000. In 2005 this day was adopted by the UN General Assembly as “the appropriate acknowledgement for victims of road traffic crashes and their families”. Since then this day is celebrated all over the world in remembrance for road traffic victims. Today this day was being celebrated for the first time in our country.

The event was presided over by Vice Chancellor Dr. Khalid M. Iraqi and chief guest of the event was AIG Traffic Shaban Ali.
