Youth need to stay strong and positive to enter political arena: moot told

KARACHI:Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sindh and Youth Parliament under the supervision of Youth Parliament Debate Council organized a three-day “Young Leaders Parliamentary Debate” on Asian Parliamentary Debate Format.

The event was graced by Minister for Works and Services Syed Nasir Hussain Shah as the chief guest. The guest of honors included Vice Chancellor Barrett Hodgson University Dr Arif Siddiqui, former chairman HEC Dr Attaur Rehman and others.

Speaking at the ceremony, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah appreciated the efforts of Youth Parliament for running such programmes for the youth. “The youth of Pakistan can do wonders. They only need proper guidance and platform which Youth Parliament is providing. Youth must stay strong and positive to enter the political arena of the country,” he added.

Welcoming the guests, Chairman Youth Parliament Rizwan Jaffar said: “Youth Parliament has organized many debate competitions, TV shows and events, but this is the first time we organized the Parliamentary Debate. I congratulate and appreciate the efforts of Raheel Akhtar and Youth Parliament Debate Council for organizing such a vibrant three-day parliamentary debate event.”

Convener Youth Parliament Debate Council Raheel Akhter said: “The aim of conducting Young Leaders Parliamentary Debate event was to promote parliamentary debate culture in Karachi and to provide a platform to youth where they can exchange ideas, learn about democratic culture, diplomacy, national and international affairs, researching, public speaking, critical thinking, teamwork and leadership abilities.”

“Debating culture promote true representation of youth and generates true leadership,” said Aftab Siddiqui, Member National. He appreciated and congratulated Youth Parliament for its initiatives and assured his complete support.

Dr. Atta ur Rehman said: “The Parliamentary Debate is a very productive competition. Such kind of debate show case real talent, intelligence and thinking capacity of youth which helps creating leaders for the future. “Divergence is not good for society we must adopt discipline to move the country towards success and prosperity,” he added.

Dr Arif Siddiqui said, “I congratulate the team of Youth Parliament and Barrett Hodgson University for conducting Young Parliamentary Debate on very important topics related to the society. This kind of events will improve the thinking skills of our youth.”

PPP MPA Rubina Qaimkhani said, “Youth Parliament team is not only providing training and help to the youth of Sindh but is also helping the youth of Pakistan. Those who are sitting here today will become MPAs, MNAs and senators tomorrow.”

The opening ceremony of Young Leaders Parliamentary Debate was held at Barrett Hodgson University where Majid Aziz (Renowned Industrialist) graced the event as the chief guest. It was the first time when 26 teams competed the debate championship.

The NED University team won the championship and Jinnah Sindh Medical University team was runner up. The Young Leaders Parliamentary debate concluded with awards ceremony and group photo session.
