IOK faces curfew-like restrictions to prevent march

Srinagar, December 17, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Indian authorities imposed curfew-like restrictions in Srinagar and adjoining areas and used brute force on protesters to prevent a grand march towards the Indian army headquarters in Badami Bagh, Srinagar, today.

Call for the march was given by the Joint Resistance Leadership against the massacre carried out by Indian forces in Pulwama, on Saturday. Police and paramilitary forces put up barricades in various parts of Srinagar and on roads leading to the army headquarters. Restrictions were especially imposed in Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, Safakadal, Maharaj Gunj, Ram Munshibagh, Maisuma and Kralkhud areas of Srinagar.

Police arrested Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik when they defied restrictions and tried to lead a march towards Badami Bagh in Srinagar. Mirwaiz and Yasin Malik were arrested along with dozens of their supporters in Nigeen and Gawkadal areas of the city. Police used brute force and fired teargas shells on the protesters. Clashes were reported between protesters and forces’ personnel in Maisuma and other areas of the city.

Police placed the entire Hurriyat leadership including Syed Ali Gilani and Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai either under house arrest or in jails to prevent them from leading the march. Meanwhile, complete shutdown was observed on the third consecutive day, today, in all districts of the Kashmir valley and in Khari, Bhadarwah, Doda, Thathri, Gandoh, Ramban, Kishtwar, Poonch and others areas of Jammu region. All shops, business establishments, government offices and banks were closed while traffic was off the roads. The authorities suspended mobile internet and train services in the territory.

A protest demonstration organized by APHC-AJK was held outside Indian embassy in Islamabad to condemn the Indian brutalities in occupied Kashmir. The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in a statement strongly condemned the killing of innocent Kashmiris in direct shooting by Indian forces at demonstrators in Pulwama area of occupied Kashmir. The OIC called on India to allow a fact-finding mission to visit the occupied territory.

In Bradford, speakers at a conference organized by Jammu and Kashmir Self Determination Movement International asked Britain and other European countries to raise their voice against the killings in Kashmir.

OIC asks Delhi to allow fact-finding mission to IOK

Jeddah, December 17, 2018 (PPI-OT):The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has condemned the Pulwama killings and asked Delhi to allow sending of a fact-finding mission to the valley. Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter OIC wrote: “OIC General Secretariat expressed strong condemnation of the killing of innocent Kashmiris by Indian forces in occupied Kashmir where direct shooting at demonstrators in Pulwama district claimed the lives of a number of innocent citizens.”

The OIC in a statement urged the Indian government to put an end to the human rights abuses. “The excessive and arbitrary use of force by Indian forces against innocent civilians, peacefully protesting for their legitimate rights, is deplorable and a blatant violation of their human rights including the right to life, right to freedom of expression, right to peaceful protests and assembly and other fundamental human rights,” the statement added.

“The objective report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, issued in June this year, aptly covers these violations in detail. The High Commissioner for Human Rights also called for establishing a Commission of Inquiry under UN auspices to comprehensively investigate the confirmed allegations of human rights violations, which are fully supported by the IPHRC,” said the statement.

The statement said the commission notes that the modern history of Kashmir has become synonymous with insidious systematic and systemic ethnic cleansing and genocide of the Kashmiris where all possible means of violence including mass blinding through pellet guns, rape and molestation against women, enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings of youth are used to quell their legitimate and well recognized demand for self-determination.

“The Commission also urges the Government of India to abide by its international human rights obligations by bringing an end to the gross human rights violations and allow the international human rights community including the UN and OIC to visit Kashmir to objectively and independently report on the human rights situation,” it said.

Curbs after killings add to brutalities: JKDFP

Srinagar, December 17, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) has said that curbs and restrictions after killing add to brutalities. The JKDFP spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar strongly condemned the imposition of curfew in Srinagar and south Kashmir areas and said Indian authorities and their local agents don’t allow people even to mourn.

He said caging people after every brutal killing has become a norm in Kashmir and ironically the Indian authorities are posing as if nothing is wrong in the disputed region. Unfortunately, the whole world is deceived by the Indian propaganda and there is not a single voice in the whole world to condemn the Indian brutalities in Kashmir, the spokesman added.

He said the men in uniform have been set free to kill and injure whosoever tries to raise voice against the ongoing state terrorism in Kashmir. The killing of unarmed civilians has become a norm in the disputed region and this all is done by a country which claims to be the largest democracy. The party, however, pledged to take the cause of freedom forward at any cost.

The spokesman hailed the steadfastness of the people of Kashmir against the brutal and inhuman approach of India. He said people of Kashmir have burnt down their boats and they have decided to keep the journey on until they are granted an opportunity to decide about their political future. Expressing solidarity with the people, whose nears and dears were massacred by the Indian forces at Kharepora area of Pulwama, the spokesman said blood of innocent youth will soon destroy the castles of oppression.

Gilani condemns police action against Hurriyat leaders

Srinagar, December 17, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Syed Ali Gilani has strongly condemned the undemocratic actions of Indian police against Hurriyat leaders and activists in the territory. Syed Ali Gilani was scheduled to move towards Badami Bagh as per the JRL programme, today, but Indian police did not allow him to come out of his residence as they had sealed the main gate of his residence from outside.

He said, “We had planned to peacefully march towards Badami Bagh and ask the Indian army officers not to kill us in small groups and in phases, as it will take you a long time. You have been massacring us daily, blinding us regularly, molesting our womenfolk repeatedly and bulldozing our property in every nook and corner, so we want to make your job easy by presenting ourselves enemas to quench your blood thirst.”

He expressed profound grief and shock on the carnage of Pulwama where dozens of innocent youth have been killed in broad-day-light in front of their relatives and said that their grief-stricken sobs and innocent cries did not get any response from stone hearted rulers.

He termed the Pulwama carnage just an addition to the hundreds of massacres like Gawkadal, Alamgari Bazaar, Handwara, Zakoora, Kupwara, Hawal, Khanyar, Sopore, Baramulla, Lalchowk, Tangpora, Kashtwar, Chatisinghpora, Brakpora, Wandhama, Mehjoor Nagar and Nadi Marg.

He said the inhuman and ruthless attitude by Indian forces is going on for the last 71 years and the loss of hundreds of thousands of precious lives is a blot on the so-called Indian democracy and their local stooges, who are partners in this heinous crime and no conscious human can forgive them for this brutality and bloodshed.

Hailing the Pakistan premier’s statement, that the issue of gross human rights violations in occupied Kashmir will be taken up in UN Security Council, he said Pakistan, being a prime partner of the dispute, needs to do much more than statements as the genocide here seems to have no end. He appealed Pakistan to have vigorous consultations with likeminded, friendly and Muslim nations to convene and urgent meeting of OIC and put a check on this carnage and blood bath on daily basis.
