First open heart surgery performed in NICVD Larkana

LARKANA:First open heart surgery was performed in the history of Larkana at its NICVD centre here on Saturday.

It was revealed by Dr Fazal Rafique, Dr Ali Raza Mangi, Dr Amin Khawaja, and Dr Javed Siyal during media briefing. They said previously there was no such facility in Larkana due to which cardiac patients had to travel to big cities costing them extra but now it had been made available in Larkana where open heart surgery would be made free of cost so that people of this region could take a sigh of relief.

They disclosed that one heart patient Khalid’s open heart surgery was performed today and now those surgeries would be carried out in Larkana weekly.

They said: “Eight NICVD satellite centers are functioning across Sindh which include Hyderabad, Sehwan, Sukkur, Nawabshah, Khairpur, Tando Muhammad Khan, Mithi and Larkana where free services are being provided to the heart patients.”

They said that kids suffering from hole in the heart would also be treated at those centers and the patients did not need to go abroad for treatment. They said that with the endeavours of NICVD Director Prof Nadeem Qamar, their centers were working satisfactorily in entire Sindh.

They announced that next open heart surgery will be performed in Tando Mohammad Khan and gradually, every center would get this facility.

Rangers and police arrest nine suspects in joint operations

KARACHI:Sindh Rangers and police arrested nine suspects in a combing operation from different parts of metropolis on Saturday.

According to police sources, rangers and police in joint operations in Memon Goth and Essa Goth and searched several houses in the areas and also detained nine suspects.

Police also claimed to have recovered illegal weapons, drugs, huge quantity of betel nut and Gutka from their possession.

Security guard injured in accidental gunfire

KARACHI:A private Company’s security guard was injured in an accidental gunfire in Karachi’s Malir area on Saturday.

According to rescue sources, the security guard identified as sasim, aged 20, son of Subedar, suffered serious bullet injuries when his gun accidentally went off in Malir Alfalah society.

The injured was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.

Two women found dead in Karachi

KARACHI:Two women were found dead in different parts of the metropolis on Saturday.

According to rescue sources, the three-day-old body of the 32-year-old woman, Darshawar was found from a house near Tariq Road.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities.

Separately, the body of a 45-year-old unidentified woman was found dead in a drain in Port Qasim Textile Mill area. The body was spotted floating in the drainage. Rescuers reached the site after being informed and shift the body to JPMC for medico-legal formalities.

However, the cases of death could not be ascertained yet.

Larkana: 340 criminals, including five bandits, arrested in Nov

KARACHI:Larkana police, headed by SSP Masood Ahmed Bangash, arrested 340 criminals including five bandits in injured condition during different raids and encounters in the district.

The detainees included 84 proclaimed offenders and 220 absconders. The police also recovered huge quantity of weapons from these detained criminals which include two rocket launchers, six Kalashnikovs, 10 hand grenades, four awaran bombs, four shells, 22 pistols, 19 revolvers, 25 shotguns, 738 rounds, 110 cartridges, 74 kilograms of hashish, 105 kilograms of bhang and 45 bottles of alcohol during the month.

The police also launched a crackdown on profiteers and arrested three accused Hanif Jatoi, Yaseen Siyal and Rasool Bux Rohi involved in this crime. Actions were also taken against motorcyclists without helmets and land grabbers while encroachments on the police land worth millions of rupees were also removed.

Woman injured after falling off building

KARACHI:A woman received severe injuries after falling off a building in Landhi area of the metropolis in the wee hours of Saturday.

According to rescue sources, a 45-year-old woman, Bukhat Amina Khatoon, fell down from the rooftop of a building in Landhi’s Future Colony. As a result, she sustained severe head injuries. She was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center for treatment.

Sindh governor flags off car rally

KARACHI:Vintage and Classic Car Club of Pakistan’s (VCCCP) 9th Annual Rally has been flagged off today by Imran Ismail Governor of Sindh from the Governors House.

Among the glittering, colourful lineup of vintage and classic cars were a display of two most historic cars in the collection of VCCCP.

A 1947 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith Hooper which was delivered to the 1st Governor General of Pakistan Mohammad Ali Jinnah as a gift from the Queen of Great Britain which remained in his use until his death.

Another one a 1924 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost which was used on 14 August, 1947 to bring Quaid e Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Lord Louis Mountbatten to the first session of the Quaid’s oath taking ceremony as Governor General of Pakistan.

The other cars participated in the rally include 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible, 1960 MGA, 1954 Austin Heaey 100, 1960 Chevrolet Impala, 1955 Ford Thunderbird , 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback, 1983 Mercedes 280 SLC , 1958 Chevrolet Corvette and many more.

Governor Sindh Imran Ismail while addressing on the occasion said: “The vintage and classic cars exhibition has been organized with the intention to educate children and youths alike about cars of yesteryears as they do form a significant and important part of Pakistan’s history.”

He observed that preservation of vintage and classic car heritage was an important phenomenon and the purpose of this rally is to draw tourists’ attention towards cars having historical importance and significance.

Mohsin Ikram, Founder and Chairman of the Club said that the club has been holding exhibitions and rallies across Pakistan for last 15 years. He said the main objectives apart from pursuing our hobby was to save the heritage on wheels in the form of old historical cars, project a softer image of Pakistan worldwide and building a brotherhood between the four provinces of Pakistan. He said that this rally which would have more than 35-40 participating cars is the first ever in Pakistan to drive through all four provinces.

He thanked the Imran Ismail for honoring the club by flagging it off from the historical Governor House. Consul General of USA JoAnne Wagner also attended the Flag Off ceremony and appreciated the efforts of the organizers.
