President calls for joint efforts to ensure implementation on Karachi package

Islamabad, October 07, 2020 (PPI-OT): President Dr. Arif Alvi has called for joint efforts from federal and provincial governments to ensure implementation on Karachi package to uplift the country’s financial capital. In an interview with a private channel today (Wednesday), he said Karachi faced terrorism for twenty years.

The President said development of Bundal and Dangi Islands can be used commercially and thousands of flats can be built for residence. He said package of 1.1 trillion rupees shows that federal government is committed to develop Karachi.

Promoting Exports is Imperative for Economic Stability and Development of Pakistan: National Assembly Speaker

Islamabad, October 07, 2020 (PPI-OT): Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser has said that promoting exports is imperative for economic stability and development of Pakistan. He said that Afghanistan by virtue of its location was a favourable export destination besides being at the transit route to the Central Asia. He stressed for implementation of the recommendations of the Executive Committee of Pak-Afghan Friendship Group for fully realizing the export potential of the country. Speaker National Assembly was chairing the appraisal meeting of the Executive committee of the Pakistan Afghanistan Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) to review the implementation of the decisions regarding Pak-Afghan Trade and visa facilitation in the Parliament House today.

The NLC representative informed the Committee that container clearance had reached average up to 1870 per day due to deployment of extra personnel and speedy clearance of Afghanistan bound containers and would be enhanced up to 2000 containers per day. The Speaker appreciated the performance of FBR and Custom department regarding container clearance on Torkham and Chaman borders. He directed FBR and Custom to ensure clearance of containers of Afghan Transit Trade within a week.

He also remarked that easing down the scanning requirements for the Afghan Transit Trade would facilitate the traders and directed the Custom department to complete the process within week. He directed Representative of the State Bank of Pakistan to ensure establishment of Bank Branches at Angoor Adda and Ghulam Khan Borders for facilitation of the traders. The Representative of SBP informed that Bank of Khyber and National Bank of Pakistan would establish banks within stipulated time.

He commended the approval of the cabinet of visa Liberalization policy for Afghan Nationals on recommendation of this committee. Enquiring about the implementation of the matter related to off-loading of import containers at Miran Shah instead of Ghulam Khan and deployment of FIA personnel at Ghulam Khan, Angoor Adda and Kharlachi, the Speaker directed Secretary M/o Interior to immediately assess the ground situation and submit a report at the earliest to facilitate the Afghan Transit Traders.

Reviewing progress on the issue of waving off Demurrage and Detention charges for the Afghan Transit Trade containers, the Committee recommended unanimously to forward this matter on Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet. The Committee also unanimously recommended to bring legislative bill in the matter of waiving off demurrage issues. While inquiring about reducing the number of checkpoints, the Speaker directed Special Assistant to PM on Establishment to held meeting with Balochistan Government, stakeholders and apprise the committee about rationalization of the required numbers of check posts.

SPAM remarked that the recent approval of rationalization and visa liberalization policy for Afghanistan by Cabinet is due the substantive efforts and deliberation on the part of this Executive Committee. He said that Imran Khan Prime Minister during approval of the visa policy for Afghanistan has directed to provide all facilities to visa seekers in Kabul Embassy Pakistan. Sadiq khan Prime Minister Special Envoy to Afghanistan said that coordination of FBR and NLC is vital to facilitate the transit traders. MNA Mohsin Dawar and Shahdana Gulzar Khan suggested for suggested for on ground visit of Torkham, Chaman and Angoor Adda besides giving retrospective legislation in the matter of waiving of demurrage issues.

Planning Minister urges for accelerated exploration, large-scale mining development

Islamabad, October 07, 2020 (PPI-OT): Planning Minister Asad Umar has emphasized the need for coordinated efforts for accelerated exploration and development of indigenous mineral resources, especially large-scale mining and value addition and promotion of downstream industries.

Addressing a meeting to review the progress made in the mineral sector in Islamabad on Wednesday, he said coordination among federal and provincial governments and relevant stakeholders are very crucial in this regard. The meeting was informed that Balochistan Mineral Exploration Company has been established as an exploration and mineral management company to jumpstart mineral sector development.

Germany appreciates Pakistan’s strategy of ‘smart lockdown’ to curtail COVID-19

Islamabad, October 07, 2020 (PPI-OT): Germany has appreciated economic policies of the current government in Pakistan and its strategy of ‘smart lockdown’ to curtail the COVID-19. The appreciation was expressed by German Ambassador Bernhard Stephen Sehlaghesk at his meeting with Minister for Economic Affairs Khusro Bakhtyar in Islamabad today (Wednesday).

The Ambassador agreed upon the proposed areas of the priority by the Minister to enhance the area of government to government engagement between Pakistan and Germany. He said Germany would keenly continue economic cooperation with Pakistan in future and portfolio would be strengthening in the post-Pandemic situation.

MoST ready to extend support for introducing electric buses in Karachi: Chaudhry Fawad

Islamabad, October 07, 2020 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain in a meeting with Governor of Sindh, Imran Ismail held in Islamabad today (Wednesday) offered support on the behalf of his ministry for introducing electric buses in Karachi after Islamabad.

Speaking during the meeting, the federal minister stated that the development of Karachi is the first priority of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government. “Ministry of Science and Technology is ready to extend every possible support for introducing electric buses in Karachi after Islamabad”, he said.

The governor agreed on the idea of launching electric buses in Karachi and assured his full cooperation in that regard. The minister also briefed the governor of Sindh about the performance of the Ministry of Science and Technology and ongoing projects. The discussion was also held between them regarding waste management in Karachi. Chaudhry Fawad also offered support of his ministry to the Sindh Government regarding waste management which had damaged the city.

The governor appreciated the performance of the Ministry of Science and Technology under the leadership of Chaudhry Fawad and said he had revitalized the ministry which was once a dormant institution through introducing a number of technologies based initiatives which was commendable.
