World Bank to provide $1.150 billion concessional financing to Pakistan for two power projects

Islamabad, October 16, 2020 (PPI-OT):The World Bank will provide 1.150 billion dollars concessional financing to Pakistan for the two projects to support hydropower and renewable energy development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and transmission of power from Dasu Hydropower Project. The Prime Minister Imran Khan witnessed the signing ceremony of two agreements with the World Bank in Islamabad.

Under the one financing agreement, the World Bank will provide 450 million for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Hydropower and Renewable Energy Development Project. The project is a transformational programme that will help in building capacity for harvesting the vast renewable energy potential of the province.

Under the second financing agreement, the World Bank will provide 700 million dollars for Evacuation of Power from Dasu Hydropower (Phase-I) Project. The objective of the project is transmission of power from 2160 MW Dasu Hydropower Project to respective load centers of Distribution Companies by construction of transmission line. Prime Minister Imran Khan, on the occasion said that Pakistan values its partnership with the World Bank and the government would continue with the objective of socio-economic uplift of the people.

President summons Senate, National Assembly sessions today

Prime Minister expresses appreciation for Roshan Digital Account initiative of State Bank of Pakistan

Islamabad, October 16, 2020 (PPI-OT):Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that around 21,000 non-resident Pakistanis opened Roshan Digital Account remotely and sent 24 million dollars with the number still growing. In a tweet, the Prime Minister expressed appreciation for Roshan Digital Account initiative of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

He said the number of accounts and amounts are growing every day. Roshan Digital Account is an opportunity for overseas Pakistanis allowing them to remotely open an account in Pakistan through an entirely digital and online process without any need to visit a bank branch. These accounts provide innovative solutions to undertake payment and investment activities in Pakistan.

Pakistan to welcome investment by American companies: Shibli Faraz

Islamabad, October 16, 2020 (PPI-OT):Minister for Information and Broadcasting Syed Shibli Faraz says Pakistan will welcome investment by American companies in different fields and desires that they bring in advanced technology. Talking to US Charge d’affairs Ms. Angela Aggeler in Islamabad on Thursday, he said Pakistan desires to further strengthen the all-round cooperative partnership for mutual benefit.

The US Charge d’ Affaires on the occasion appreciated Pakistan’s effective handling of the COVID-Pandemic challenge. The Minister agreed to the Charge d’ Affairs view that whereas the Corona pandemic affected conventional means of communication, it also promoted new modes including digital communication. Angela Aggeler appreciated Minister’s views on promoting Pak-US Economic cooperation.

Government decides not to change prices of petroleum products

Islamabad, October 16, 2020 (PPI-OT):The Government has decided not to change the prices of the petroleum products for this month. According to a press release of Finance Division issued on Thursday, the price of High Speed Diesel will remain 104.06 rupees, Petrol 103.97 rupees, Kerosene.65.29 rupees and Light Diesel Oil will be 62.86 rupees during this month.

PTI government to complete its constitutional tenure: Rashid

Islamabad, October 16, 2020 (PPI-OT):Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed says PTI government will complete its tenure under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan. He was addressing a function after inaugurating the newly constructed building of Railway Station at Bahawalpur on Thursday.

The Minister said the government is fully aware of the hardships of a common man and is trying its best to overcome these problems. He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate the newly constructed building of Hassan Abdal Railway Station this month.

Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said that the tenders of Main Line One Project will be opened by the end of this month which will bring revolution in the centuries old railway system established in 1861. Railways Minister on this occasion announced the restoration of Train’s old time table according to the pre-COVID pandemic days from today. He also announced to increase the salaries of rail drivers. Earlier, Railways Minister inaugurated the newly constructed building of Bahawalpur Railway Station which has been completed at a cost of three hundred million rupees.
