Fakhar Zaman ruled out of New Zealand tour

KARACHI:Batsman Fakhar Zaman has been ruled out of the tour to New Zealand.

 

Fakhar is suffering from fever and has not recovered in time for the Pakistan squad’s departure for the tour.

 

The decision to withdraw Fakhar from the tour was made keeping the health of the rest of the squad members as a top priority.

 

Fakhar was isolated in the team hotel in Lahore as soon as his condition was detected; the PCB medical panel is in touch with Fakhar.

 

“Fakhar’s covid test report was received on Saturday which came out negative but today he picked up fever,” Team Doctor Dr Sohail Saleem said.

 

“As soon as his condition was reported, he was isolated from the rest of the squad in the team hotel. We are constantly monitoring his condition and remain hopeful of his quick recovery; however he is not fit to travel with the squad and as such has been withdrawn from the touring party.”

 

The Pakistan and Pakistan Shaheens squad departed for New Zealand from Lahore in the wee hours of Monday morning.

Bandits loot journalist’s house

DALBANDIN: Bandits took away Rs8,000 cash and jewelry amounting to Rs150,000 from the house of a local journalist, the affected family told media Saturday.

 

A gang of bandits broke into the house of a local journalist Zahir Shahzad Notezai in Notezai colony area of Dalbandin and managed to escape after stealing Rs8,000 cash and jewelry amounting to Rs150,000.

 

Expressing concern over the rampant incidents of theft in Dalbandin, residents of the area called on District Administration to apprehend perpetrators of the crime and inflict exemplary punishment upon them.

Balochistan CS seeks early completion of uplift schemes

KHUZDAR: Chief Secretary Balochistan, Captain (Retd) Fazeel Asghar has said that responsible authorities of concerned department must ensure timely completion of development schemes of their respective departments or else concerned authority will be held responsible for delay and usage of substandard material in any of the development schemes.

 

These views were expressed by him while talking to the concerned authorities during inspection of different ongoing development schemes, said a statement issued here on Saturday.

 

Earlier, upon his arrival at Khuzdar, Commissioner Kalat Division, Mudasir Waheed Malik and Deputy Commissioner, Khuzdar accorded warm welcome to Chief Secretary Balochistan, Captain (Retd) Fazeel Asghar at Levies Line Helipad.

 

A smartly turned out contingent of Levies Force presented guard of honour to him. Later on, Captain (Retd) Fazeel Asghar inspected under construction Shukhru Dam.

 

Giving briefing to him, Executive Engineer Irrigation Department, Khuzdar, Shair Jan Mengal said construction work of Shukhru Dam had been initiated with the estimated cost of rupees nine crore and sixty six lac which would be completed by June 2022. Chief Secretary Balochistan also inspected under construction class rooms of Government Girls Degree College, Khuzdar, Allama Muhammad Umer Dinpuri Library and Ghous Bakhsh Bizenjo Family Park. He also inaugurated Conference Room at Deputy Commissioner Complex.

 

On the occasion, he urged concerned authorities to complete development schemes in accordance with the period mentioned in the Project Cycle (PC-I) of the subject scheme.

Coal miner killed in landslide

QUETTA: A coal miner was killed due to landslide in at Nusrat Coal Mines area of district Harnai on Saturday.

 

According to detail, the incident occurred in Ghousuddin coal mine of Nusrat Coal Mines area of Harnai where a mound fell on a coal miner, killing him on the spot.

 

Residents of the area retrieved the body on self-help basis and shifted it to District Headquarter, Harnai. Deceased was identified as Khan Wali, son of Zer Gul, 20, caste Barakzai, citizen of Afghanistan.

 

Coronavirus cases rises in B’stan

QUETTA: A spokesperson of provincial government Liaquat Shahwani has said that cases of novel corona virus are increasing in the province.

“COVID-19 cases have tripled after the public meeting of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), said Shahwani while addressing a press conference at Officers Club here on Saturday. He said if people did not adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) prescribed by the government to combat the spread of COVID-19, lockdown would be tightened.

Shahwani said opposition parties were defying SOPs which could prove detrimental to them. He said people were bearing the brunt of impacts caused owing to the enforcement of lockdown to combat COVID-19.

(CITY): Chimneys smoke plays havoc with lives of people

UTHAL: Glaciari Awami Committee Somyani Winder said in a statement on Saturday that white smoke emitting from the chimneys of fish mills is not only playing havoc with the lives of people but the said hazardous smoke is also causing loss to the gardens, orchards and other standing crops.

 

Glaciari Awami Committee Somyani Winder appealed to Deputy Commissioner, Lasbella and authorities of Environmental Protection Agency Balochistan to take action against fish mills so that people of the area could be saved from diseases.

Wearing mask made mandatory for patients, attendants

KARACHI: Director General Health Services Sindh has made use of face mask for patients and their attendants mandatory in the premises of hospitals across the Sindh province, PPI learnt Saturday.

 

The decision has been taken on the directives of Minister Health and Population Welfare Department. All the medical superintendents and administrative directors of government hospitals, including tertiary care /DHQ/THQ health facilities, medical institutions and other units, have been advised to ensure strict compliance with one patient one attendant policy at their healthcare establishments.

 

Every outdoor and indoor patients accompanying attendant must wear face mask all the time beside complete adherence to other COVID-19 preventive measures. The Divisional directors concerned and district health officers are also required to monitor implementation of aforementioned standard operating procedures on daily basis.
