Pakistan’s first Freestyle Wrestling League to be named Pro Dangal League

KARACHI:Pakistan will be hosting its very first freestyle wrestling league in later this year. The organizers, however, have said that Covid-19 situation will allow whether to host the event or not.

The League is owned by Pakistan’s sports management company Strawberry Sports Management while Pakistan Wrestling Federation will give technical assistance. The League will feature top most players of freestyle wrestling through city based franchise model.

Strawberry Sports Management announced the name of the League and also unveiled its logo. Speaking on the occasion, Haider Ali Daud Khan, Chief Executive Officer of Strawberry Sports Management said “We have announced the name of the league as Pro Dangal League with great pride. Freestyle Wrestling is a sport with deep connections with our soil. Dangal resonates with our culture and reflects the traditional side of wrestling. We hope that Pro Dangal League will help strengthen the roots of freestyle wrestling in the country”.

Muhammad Arshad Sattar, Secretary of Pakistan Wrestling Federation remarked, “Pro Dangal League holds unique importance for the promotion of freestyle wrestling in Pakistan and beyond. The name of the league reflects the heritage of freestyle wrestling in Pakistan. We hope that Pro Dangal League will help inspire a new generation of freestyle wrestlers who will bring pride for Pakistan.”

The inaugural season of Pro Dangal League will be held in 2021/2022 once Covid-19 pandemic is under reasonable control and conditions are conducive for holding it in the country, said the organizers.

Abbottabad clinches NBP Blind T-20 Trophy title

KARACHI:Abbottabad claimed the Grade-2 NBP Blind cricket trophy after defeating host city Karachi here on Friday at TMC Cricket Ground.

Both finalist teams were unbeaten in the group stage and showcased some stunning performances in all three departments. Karachi won the toss and elected to field first.

Abbottabad’s openers captain Riasat Khan and Naeem Ullah displayed a solid partnership of 179 for the first wicket. Naeem Ullah got out after scoring 79 whereas Riasat Khan stood with unbeaten 80 runs. Abbottabad put 186 on the board for the loss of three wickets.

Karachi in response started well but their key player Tahir Ali’s wicket and Wali Ullah getting retired hurt put them on back foot and could only score 149 for 4. Tahir Ali and Murad Ali were the top scorers with 28 and 27 respectively. Mohammad Adeel grabbed two wickets.

Taekwondo Referee and Jury course commences in Karachi

KARACHI:Sindh Taekwondo Referee and Jury four-day course has started here at Karachi’s KMH multi-purpose open complex on Friday.

Over 70 youngsters participated in this course on the first day. Pakistan Taekwondo Federation (PTF) secretary Murtaza Bungash is supervising this event with his team members. Large number of male and females from Karachi are participating in this event.

Technical head of this training course Muhammad Asad has stated that the purpose of this coaching course is to provide awareness to the youngsters.

Secretary PTF Karachi Khaldoon Raja said that this training course would be helpful to young players ahead of international events.

KMC to soon get 50 fire tenders, two water bousers

KARACHI:A spokesman for Governor Sindh said in a statement on Friday that 50 fire tenders and 2 water bousers imported in an effort to boost Karachi’s fire emergency system will be seen flag marching on city roads on Saturday, 13th February.

 

“The flag March will commenced from Governor House at 11.30 am,” the spokesman added. The spokesman said that the Karachi has received a batch of 52 modern fire trucks from a Chinese company which will help the metropolis city to enhance its fire-fighting capacity. He said: “The firefighting vehicles have been purchased with the cost of Rs1.4 billion under the financial package announced by the federal government for the metropolis.

 

The initiative is a gift from the prime minister of Pakistan for Karachi which was “sorely needed” and that never before had fire tenders been brought in such quantity“.

 

The spokesman also stated that the modern technology based fire tenders are very different from the traditional ones and the new fire trucks have much better hardware, high pressure water gun fire extinguishing capability and other useful features.

 

The spokesman further said the Governor Sindh Imran Ismail will handover fleet of technology based fire tenders/ trucks at a simple ceremony, to be held separately on Sunday, 14th February at Governor House at 2.00 pm. “The fire department KMC will be responsible for the fire tenders, water bousers and they would come under the ownership of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC),” the spokesman added.

Rally staged to mark World Women Day

QUETTA:Shazia Batool, leader of Breaking Bearers Women, has said aims and objectives of Breaking Bearers Women was to empower women enabling them to work shoulder to shoulder with men.

These views were expressed by her while addressing a demonstration held outside Quetta Press Club here on Friday. In order to mark World Women Day, a rally under the aegis of Breaking Bearers Women was taken out from Millennium Mall Quetta.

The rally participants marched through different roads and reached Quetta Press Club where they held a demonstration. Addressing the demonstration, Shazia Batool said that Breaking Bearers Women was striving to empower women enabling them to share responsibility with men. She demanded of the authorities concerned to implement the law pertaining to the rights of women.

Match officials for HBL PSL 2021 confirmed

KARACHI:The Pakistan Cricket Board on Friday announced match officials for the HBL Pakistan Super League 2021, which will be held in Karachi and Lahore from 20 February to 22 March.

Aleem Dar, Michael Gough and Richard Illingworth from the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires will join seven member of the PCB Elite Panel of Umpires to share umpiring responsibilities. These seven local umpires are Ahsan Raza, Asif Yaqoob (PCB Umpire of 2020), Faisal Khan Afridi, Imran Jawed, Rashid Riaz, Shozab Raza and Zameer Haider.

Former member of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, Roshan Mahanama, along with PCB elite panelists Ali Naqvi, Iftikhar Ahmed, Muhammad Anees and Mohammad Javed Malik, will lead the playing control teams in the 34-match tournament.

The tournament opener between defending champions Karachi Kings and 2019 winners Quetta Gladiators at the National Stadium will be umpired by Aleem Dar and Ahsan Raza, while Rashid Riaz will be the third umpire and Asif Yaqoob as the fourth umpire. Roshan Mahanama will be the match referee.
