Netherlands’ Ambassador calls on Sindh Governor

KARACHI:The Ambassador of Netherlands to Pakistan, Willem Wouter Plomp called on Governor Sindh Imran Ismail at Governor’s House today.

The matters of mutual interests and opportunities for deepening the cooperation among both countries were discussed at the meeting. Ismail said that there was room to expand the economic cooperation, implement new projects and make new investments.

He said that Pakistan always wanted to cement its relations with Netherlands through strengthened diplomatic relationship. The envoy opined that there was a great scope of cooperation between Pakistan and Netherlands in the areas of agriculture and dairy farming. Plomp further said that the investors of his country are also interested to invest in Pakistan.

CM KP directs to establish check posts to stop illegal trafficking of birds

PESHAWAR:Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan has termed the protection of wildlife as of vital importance for the conservation of nature and biodiversity in the province, and has directed the quarters concerned to take result-oriented steps to effectively control illegal hunting of precious birds and other wildlife and to take stern action against the elements involved in the illegal hunting adding that action should be initiated from his home district Swat, so that natural beauty of the province could be enhanced by protecting the rare birds species and other wildlife.

He also directed to plan projects for the breeding of birds at suitable places in collaboration with private sector further directing to gear up work on the proposed projects for establishing new national parks in the province. He was chairing a meeting regarding establishment of National Parks and Wildlife conservation held here the other day at Chief Minister House. Chief Conservator Wildlife and other concerned authorities attended the meeting.

CM directed the Forest and Wildlife Department to take necessary steps for setting up joint check posts on permanent basis across the province in order to stop illegal trafficking of birds and timber. The meeting was told that a number of national parks have been proposed for promoting environmental, tourism and to expend protected areas network in the province which include Nizam Pur National Park covering 5236 hector of land, 1896 hector Kamal Ban National Park, 2773 hector Rakh Topi National Park, 8085 hector Malkandi, 79,515 hector Koh-e-Sulaiman and 3036 hector Ghusarah National Park.

In order to ensure conservation of biodiversity, various biosphere reserves have been proposed that included 20,380 hector Mankial biosphere reserve, Swat, 27056 hector Kumrat and 95,521 hector Palas biosphere reserve Kohistan. Similarly, two new Game reserves have been proposed including 317 hector Parshalai Game reserve Bunir and 335 hector game reserve district Hangu.

Briefing about the ongoing initiatives of wildlife department under ten billion tree project, it was told that six partridge breeding centers have been established so far and a number of new birds were also procured adding that 125 community watchers have been hired for habitat improvement and protection of wildlife.

Similarly, four wildlife check posts have been established to control illegal trade of wildlife whereas work on other twelve wildlife checks posts is in progress adding that two control desks at Chitral airport and two control desks at Peshawar airport have also been established. It was further informed that project director has been hired for establishing a mini zoo at district swat.

Human Rights policy implemented in Punjab province: Ejaz Augustine

LAHORE:Punjab Minister for Human Rights and Minority Affairs Ejaz Alam Augustine on Monday said the incumbent government had implemented human rights policy and for the first time in Punjab single national curriculum was being ensured.

He expressed these views while addressing the forum “provincial advocacy forum” at a local hotel on the topic of improved access to fair, legitimate and effective justice in Pakistan.

Spokesperson for the Punjab government Musarat Jamshed Cheema, Lawyer Iftikhar Ahmed, DG Women Authority Punjab Irshad Waheed, representatives of civil society, academia, police, lawyers and representatives of other concerned departments were also present in the forum.

The minister said the department of human rights had given many suggestions to the concerned departments on prison reforms while submitting reports to the Supreme Court of Pakistan after every three months regarding condition of prisons. He further said that series of police training being ensured to protect human rights especially for children and women while working on interfaith policy in Punjab.

Musarat Jamshed Cheema said the foundation of the state of Madina was possible only on equal provision of justice. She said that efforts were being made to ensure the protection of human rights from day one, while for the protection of human rights, public service messages had been disseminated so that even a common mancould be made aware of all his basic rights. Musarat Jamshed further said: “We all have to work together especially through media to create awareness campaign to end all forms of discrimination”.

Bahawalpur police busted 03-inter district gangs, recovered 25 bikes

Bahawalpur:The Bahawalpur police has arrested three inter-district gangs and recovered 25 motorcycles.

Spokesperson Bahawalpur police, said operation team led by ASP President Circle Muhammad Shahzaib Chachar took full action against the motorcycle thieves gangs and arrested three gangs, including Sajjadi Baloch gang, Eijazi gang and Rashid gang . The police have arrested Sajjad Baloch, Noman, Eijaz, Asghar, Rashid, Javed, Yasir, Khizar and Azhar alias Keikar.

The police have also recovered 25 motorcycles from accused and motorcycles were handed over to the owners after legal procedure. The Saddar police station Bahawalpur, Samma Satta police station, Musafir Khana police station and Abbas Nagar police station took part in operation.

Speaking on the occasion, DPO Muhammad Faisal Kamran said that after assumption of command of Bahawalpur Police, I was determined to service the public by using all possible resources and powers. The DPO announced the awarding of certificates of appreciation to the Saddar Police circle Bahawalpur for their performance.

Inter-collegiate boys ‘tug-of-war’ competitions kicks off

SARGODHA:An inter-collegiate boys ‘tug-of-war’ competitions kicked off here on Monday at the sports gymnasium, under the auspices of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Sargodha Sports Department

Chairperson Sargodha Education Board Dr Kausar Raees and Secretary Board Dr Mohsin Abbas were the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony. Director Sports Department of Education Board Chaudhry Mazhar Hussain, International Basketball players Waqas Butt, Junaid Khan, Najam Hussain and others attended the ceremony. Students from various colleges of the district are participating in the tournament.

PTI Govt gives budget shares and rights to south Punjab districts: Usman Buzdar

LAHORE:Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar said on Monday the provincial government had given South Punjab districts their rights which were usurped in the past, adding that a separate development budget had also been devised for the first time.

He regretted that South Punjab’s funds were spent on other cities and the people of south Punjab were deceived in the name of development. Not only south Punjab was kept backward but people were also deceived through misleading figures, he continued.

In the past, the overall utilization of development funds in south Punjab was not more than 17 per cent, but the PTI government allocated more than 34 per cent budget for south Punjab to ensure composite development, he maintained.

The PTI has also ring-fenced south Punjab’s development budget to ensure the welfare of people of remote areas, he said. The days of backwardness of south Punjab were over and the whole country would be made prosperous under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, he added.

IUB organize training workshop for teachers and heads of colleges

BAHAWALPUR:On the direction of Vice Chancellor Engineer Prof Dr Athar Mahboob, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, a one-day training workshop was organized for the teachers and heads of all the affiliated colleges regarding the Associate Degree Program (ADP). Prof Dr Tahir Nadeem and Noshin Malik from the Department of Education spoke on education and learning.

Prof Dr Bushra Naz from the Department of English provided information on English language teaching. Teachers from associate colleges were made aware of internal examinations, materials, teaching and learning issues and other modern methods.

The training workshop was chaired by Prof Dr Moazzam Jameel, Registrar, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. He appreciated the special cooperation of Prof Dr Irshad Hussain, Director, Undergraduate Studies Center in organizing the workshop. In the expert panel, Talib Hussain, Additional Controller of Examinations, informed about the problems related to organization.

At the end of the training workshop, it was reiterated that this associate degree program will introduce students to modern education system and will introduce an international level system from which graduate students from international and global educational networks will be rooted.
