Windiest women take 2-0 lead over Pakistan women in ODIs

KARACHI: An all-round display by Hayley Matthews helped host West Indies go 2-0 up in the five-ODI series against Pakistan with an eight-wicket victory at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Saint John’s. After claiming two for 17, Matthews fell one run short of what would have been her fifth career half-century as the West Indies chased down an easy 121-run target in 31.1 overs for the loss of two wickets. Before being run-out, right-handed Matthews struck nine fours in her 58-ball 49, and also stitched a solid 66-run opening partnership with Kyshona Knight, who remained unbeaten on 39 (90b, 4×4).

Earlier, off-spinner Anisa Mohammed’s four for 27 from 9.4 overs spun the tourists out for a paltry 120 in 42.4 overs after Pakistan captain Javeria Khan had elected to bat. Anisa provided crucial breakthroughs as she accounted for Aliya Riaz (26), Sidra Nawaz (two), Diana Baig (two) and Nashra Sandhu (zero).

Opener Muneeba Ali top-scored for Pakistan with a career-best 37 off 63 balls. The left-handed batter struck six hours before falling to Matthews, who also picked up the scalp of Nida Dar (20). Off-spinner Karismaha Ramharack claimed two wickets for 27 runs from nine overs.
The third ODI will be staged at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Monday, July 12.

Atiq CA faces Warriors XI in Gold Cup T20 final today

Al-Noor Gymkhana enters cricket tourney final round

KARACHI: Al-Noor Gymkhana cruised into the final round of All Sindh Prof. Ejaz Ahmed Faruqi Invitation Cricket Tournament after beating Faisal Gymkhana by eight wickets in the last match of the knock-out phase at TMC Ground. Faisal Gymkhana batted first and scored 148 before the tam was bundled out in in 39.1 overs. Imran Shah batted well for the side scoring 87 runs. Adnan Shah, Zia-ul-Haq and Adil Ali put a concerted effort picking three wickets each.

In response, Al-Noor Gymkhana scored 153-2 in 33.2 overs. Hafiz Asad batted well for the side scoring unbeaten 69 runs. After the end of the 152 knock-out matches, 16 clubs have qualified for the final round, which will be played on league basis. MPA Adil observes Bilawal enjoying pleasant weather of Kashmir

KARACHI: Haleem Adil Sheikh, the Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly on Saturday said that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was now enjoying the pleasant weather of Kashmir, but he would not get even party candidates elected during the upcoming elections in the valley.

“Those who had caused massive destruction and devastation everywhere in Sindh during their worst governance will be rejected by the people of Kashmir, ” he said in a statement. He requested people of Kashmir to see the deplorable conditions of his hometown Larkana. Mr Sheikh said that the PPP chairman was also scheduled to visit the USA at the critical time when the brave Pakistani Prime Minister Khan had flatly refused to allow the American government to use the country’s air bases by saying absolutely not.”

The PTI leader recalled that from the fall of Dhaka PPP leadership had always done damage to the sovereignty of the country to get power. He said that PPP rulers were misusing the government plane and helicopter of chief minister Sindh. “The plane of Sindh government is being used like a taxi or rickshaw by PPP leaders,” he added.

The PTI leader said that past corrupt leaders compromised the sovereignty of the country to perpetrate their rule. He made it clear that Bilawal Bhutto, unlike his predecessors, would not secure any position through the back door since Pakistan was now being run by a brave and selfless leader like Imran Khan.

Mr Sheikh said that such leaders always tried to destabilize country by accusing the state institutions of the country. To please their friends even in a country like India.

Prize distribution ceremony held at PN College

NAUNDERO: Annual prize distribution ceremony was held at Pakistan Navy Cadet College Ormara (PNCCO). Federal Minister for Defense Production Ms Zobaida Jalal graced the occasion as the chief guest. Upon arrival at Cadet College Ormara, the Federal Minister was received by Commander Coast Vice Admiral Zahid Ilyas. Inverter, solar plate, other material stolen from Bhutto Estate orchard

NAUNDERO: Unknown thieves stole an inverter of solar tube well, 300 watts solar plate, fan, wheat and fertilizer from the Bhutto Estate guava orchard in the weeh hours of Saturday. The orchard is located within the limits of Ketty Mumtaz police station near Phulpota village, about a kilometer from the Bhutto House. The cops have done nothing as yet to recover the looted goods as they remained busy in a bloody dispute which occurred between Katohar and Jalbani communities in the jurisdiction of Waris Dino Machi police station yesterday.

Neither any FIR has been registered nor has the material been recovered. Footprints were followed with the help of sniffing dogs which led them to a house of one Malook Narejo in Phulpota village where police arrested one suspect but his name was not revealed to the media yet. SHO Ketty Mumtaz police station Mumtaz Siyal told newsmen on Saturday that police had arrested a few suspects in the theft case and a probe was underway. He said he was busy in emergency duty at Waris Dino Machi Katohar-Jalbani tribal feud and further investigation would be made on his return.

It must be remembered here that paddy straws kept at the same orchard were burnt a few months ago by criminals who wanted extortion but police had so far failed to arrest them. Thefts and other street crimes have increased rapidly in and around Naundero for which police will have to take stringent actions to track down the fugitives of law so that residents could be able to live in a comfortable atmosphere.

Pakistan provides lifesaving medical equipment for Bangladesh’s COVID-19 response

KARACHI: High Commission for Pakistan in Dhaka said Saturday that it had provided lifesaving equipment to Ahsania Mission Cancer and General Hospital in Dhaka.

The equipment, which will be used in a separate Covid ward of the hospital include 10 ventilators, 20 C-PAP breathing aid machines, 10 beds, an elevator for the hospital building and a vehicle for use by the Covid ward staff. High Commissioner Imran Ahmed Siddiqui handed over financial assistance to President, Ahsania Mission, Kazi Rafiqul Alam for locally sourced items this afternoon, according to a statement.

Siddiqui underscored Pakistan’s vision of regional partnerships for peace and sustainable development while reiterating its commitment to addressing the impact of the pandemic jointly with the regional countries particularly Bangladesh with which it enjoyed fraternal ties. In this connection, the High Commissioner recalled telephone conversation between Prime Minister Imran Khan and Prime Minister Shaikh Hasina last year on the impact of Covid pandemic.

In the context of regional cooperation, the High Commissioner mentioned that Pakistan had contributed US$3 million to the SAARC Covid-19 Emergency Fund to support regional efforts in the common fight against Coronavirus pandemic.

“Our partnership with Ahsania Mission Cancer and General Hospital is a robust expression of solidarity and support to Bangladeshi sisters and brothers in their fight against Covid. It is also a testament to Pakistan’s strong commitment to promotion of regional cooperation under SAARC,” Siddiqui added.

President Ahsania Mission Kazi Rafiqul Alam thanked the High Commission for Pakistan for timely contribution and briefed on various projects of the Hospital.
