Empowering Digital Pakistan: H3C Embarks on Digital Transformation with Partners and Customers

Corona virus: No casualties, 140 others infected

Karachi, November 20, 2021 (PPI-OT):No casualty was reported today and 140 new cases emerged when 13,949 tests were conducted. This was stated by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in a statement issued here on Saturday. He added that no casualty was reported today, patients death toll to 7,611 that constituted 1.6 percent death rate. Mr. Syed Murad Ali Shah said that 13,949 samples were tested which detected 140 cases that constituted 1 percent current detection rate.

He added that so far 6,635,721 tests have been conducted against which 473,006 cases were diagnosed, of them 95.7 percent or 452,848 patients have recovered, including 98 overnight. The CM said that currently 12,547 patients were under treatment; of them 12,325 were in home isolation, 202 at different hospitals and 20 patients in Isolation Centres. He added that the condition of 199 patients was stated to be critical, including 13 shifted to ventilators.

According to the statement, out of 140 new cases, 32 have been detected from Karachi. Explaining the statistics of districts wise East 16, South 12, Korangi, Central, West and Malir one each. Other districts in Hyderabad has 22, Shaheed Benazirabad 15, Dadu 13, Tando Allahyar 11, Larkana nine, Tharparkar and Sanghar eight each, Jamshoro seven, Tando Muhammad Khan and Umerkot four each. CM Syed Murad Ali Shah urged people to abide by the SOPs issued by the government.

Indonesia expresses keen interest to invest in diverse sectors in Pakistan 

Islamabad, November 20, 2021 (PPI-OT):Ambassador of Indonesia to Pakistan Adam Mulawarman Tugio has said Pakistan and Indonesia can play a significant role in economic and trade integration among global trading partners. Talking to APP, the ambassador said the two countries are located in a very important geographical location and are linked by historical, religious and cultural relations.

The Ambassador said Pakistan’s location will make the port of Gwadar an important factor in global economic and trade integration. Responding to a question, he said Indonesia is keenly interested in investing in Pakistan’s diverse sectors.

CM chairs meeting to review anti-smog steps by the Punjab Government 

Lahore, November 20, 2021 (PPI-OT):Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has directed to take effective steps to overcome smog in the province and made it clear that no negligence would be tolerated in this regard. While chairing a meeting at his office on Friday, the CM stressed that anti-smog measures should be result-oriented and directed to continue indiscriminate crackdown against factories and smog emitting vehicles in the province.

Similarly, action be initiated against factories involved in burning tyres; such units should be sealed along with the imposition of fines, he continued. The water be sprinkled in the city daily and steps be taken immediately for the procurement of electric buses, he said. The CM expressed his displeasure over the delay in the procurement of electric buses and asked to submit a final plan in this regard.

He directed to impose a 50 per cent cut in the number of official vehicles and asked the secretaries to submit a compliance report to his office. The scope of the anti-smog squad would be further expanded as 5 anti-smog squads have already been constituted in Lahore, he said.

The CM directed to take effective action against those responsible for burning the stumble. The environment protection department, agriculture, industries, transport and officials of the administration should personally monitor anti-smog measures in the field, he mentioned.

The smog has been declared a calamity in the province and any violation of the ban on burning the solid waste would not be tolerated; he stated and added that action would be initiated against concerned officials of waste management companies over any incident of burning the trash. Similarly, the crushing plants should be converted to the latest technology, like brick-kilns, and comprehensive planning be devised in this regard.

The CM said a proposal be forwarded to the federal government to make harvesters duty-free for harvesting the paddy crop. Meanwhile, a 24/7 smog monitoring cell has been set up in PDMA and geo-tagging of brick-kilns has been completed, he concluded. Earlier, he was briefed about anti-smog steps by different departments. Provincial EPD Minister Muhammad Rizwan, Energy Minister Dr Akhtar Malik, SACM Hasaan Khawar, chief secretary, SMBR, administrative secretaries, commissioner Lahore and others attended the meeting.

COMSATS Participation in ANSO’s School

Islamabad, November 20, 2021 (PPI-OT):COMSATS participated in the 2nd term of ANSO-BIDI School on ‘Innovation, Sustainable Development and Leadership Enhancement – 2021. Under a Memorandum of Understanding signed between COMSATS and the Centre for Environmental Economics of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CEE-UCAS) during 2020, the two organizations are collaborating to promote capacity-building of the developing countries in the fields of S and T. Both COMSATS and UCAS are members of the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO), China.

In this regard, under the Belt and Road International Innovation Development Institute Network (ANSO-BIDI Institute Network), COMSATS, ANSO and CEE-UCAS joined hands to organize the 2nd term of ANSO-BIDI School (online training) on ‘Innovation, Sustainable Development and Leadership Enhancement’ (November ’21 to January ’22).

The opening ceremony of the event was held virtually on 17th November 2021, and was attended by over 150 participants from various countries. Among others, 85 trainees belonging to various Centres of Excellence from 7 Member Countries of COMSATS, including Egypt, Iran, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Syria, as well as COMSATS Secretariat are participating in the training course.

The inauguration session of the training was opened by Prof. Desheng Wu, Dean of the Belt and Road College of UCAS, Director of the Research Centre for Environmental Economics of UCAS, China.

Speaking on behalf of COMSATS, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Shaalan, Chairperson COMSATS’ Coordinating Council, stated that concerted efforts by all stakeholders, including governments, business sector, scientific community, policymakers, society, and individual citizens, are needed to address the ongoing socio-economic challenges being faced by the South particularly the battle against COVID-19 pandemic and achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.

He laid emphasis on education, science, technology, indigenous R and D, and innovation at all levels for addressing these challenges. Prof. Shaalan stated that COMSATS has been promoting South-South and Triangular cooperation in the fields of science and technology through various initiatives related to capacity-building; collaborative research and development; and exchange of knowledge, experiences, good practices and technological resources, etc.

Recalling the ongoing mutually beneficial cooperation between COMSATS, ANSO and UCAS, he assured the ceremony of COMSATS’ support for the activities of ANSO-BIDI Institute Network to achieve common objectives. Prof. Shaalan thanked the organizing committee, trainees and subject experts for their participation in this important event, as well as the leaders of the partner organizations for their collaboration.

The online training would have 9 weekly modules spanning over 2.5 months during which distinguished professors from well-known universities and leaders of prestigious international organizations based in Belgium, Canada, China, Sweden, Switzerland, and USA will give lectures on several topics, including organizational management, risk management, resource integration and deployment.

Chief Minister Punjab’s message on World Children’s Day

CM chairs 68th meeting of cabinet committee for finance and development 

Lahore, November 20, 2021 (PPI-OT):Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar chaired the 68th meeting of the cabinet committee for finance and development at his office on Friday and approved to upgrade police prison vans with a supplementary grant of Rs. 71 million. The chief secretary, ACS, chairman P and D, secretary finance, secretary primary and secondary health and others attended the meeting.

The meeting approved Rs. 30.80 million grant-in-aid for sports associations along with approving the revision of PC-1 for remodelling of Ammar Chowk airport road Rawalpindi. The inclusion of a drainage scheme valuing Rs. 30 million of a suburban village of Sargodha in ADP 2021-22 was approved.

The meeting accorded approval to include a dual carriageway scheme from Syedwala Chowk Bosan Road to Head Muhammadwala in Multan in ADP 2021-22 and approved Rs. 1184 million for it. Provision of bulldozers for repair and maintenance of roads in Barthi area of Koh-e-Suleman was also approved.

Meanwhile, the upgradation of BHU Kuntraila to RHC in Gujar Khan Tehsil along with its inclusion in ADP 2021-22 and approval of a supplementary grant of Rs. 120 million was recommended by the participants. It also approved the release of funds for newly constructed boy’s primary schools in Basti Dangu union council Barthi and Basti Khayaniwhet union council Barthi in tehsil Koh-e-Suleman.

It was further decided to constitute a ministerial committee to finalize MoU with the Balochistan government for establishing a health facility in the Rakhni area of Balochistan by the Punjab government. The CM directed to expedite work to timely complete public welfare schemes and made it clear that every effort would be made to serve the masses.
