PTI announces Quetta sit-in on May 25

QUETTA:Dr Muneer Baloch, General Secretary, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Balochistan, said Monday that a protest sit-in would also be staged in Quetta on May 25, 2022 which would continue until the dissolution of the National Assembly and announcing of date for the next general election.

Addressing a press conference at Quetta Press Club with Bari Bareach, President, PTI, district Quetta, Munawara Muneer, President, Women Wing PTI, Balochistan and others, he said that Imran Khan, Chairman, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had announced long march towards Islamabad on May 25, adding that on the same date, the protest sit-in would also be observed in Quetta to press the government for immediate dissolution of the National Assembly and a date for the next general election.

He said that the protest sit-in, to be observed in Quetta on May 25, 2022, would be attended by the people from across the province, adding that it was the battle for real freedom so that every citizen of the country could get his rights.

International Nurses Day moot: Nursing described as backbone of healthcare systems

KARACHI:Nursing is the backbone of all healthcare systems around the world, and without nursing, there would be no healthcare.

This was stated at a seminar titled “Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Invest in Nursing and Respect Rights to Secure Global Health” to mark International Nurses Day, organized by Ziauddin University’s Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery.

“At Ziauddin, we understood the need of promoting nurses’ work and rights to a safe workplace, as well as their full participation and decision-making in patient care and our administrative function. We’ve worked very hard in the last two decades to improve the quality of our nursing,” said Dr Nida Hussain, Pro-Chancellor, Ziauddin University.

Representing the Sindh government, Director General Nursing Shabir Hussain Jhatial said that since the country’s founding, Sindh province has had almost 1100 BSN admissions and nearly 600 midwifery admissions. He said the Covid was at its peak when the Sindh government interpolated 2000 nurses, despite the country’s financial problems. The nurses were given hundreds of job opportunities.

The federal government has allocated 8.1 billion rupees for the improvement of nursing and midwifery services. As far as the Sindh government is concerned, nurses and midwifery are being developed and improved, and nurses are being invested in for the good of our country, he added.

While giving the knowledge about the current nursing reports, Dr. Rozina Karmaliani, Dean, School of Nursing and Midwifery (AKU) said, “By 2030, the WHO expects that the globe will require an additional nine million nurses and midwives. Take a look at the situation in Pakistan; it was already in short supply before the conflict, and we urgently need to develop a large number of high-quality nurses and midwives in Pakistan.

Dr. Sarah Salman, Head of Office Sindh Representative WHO stated: “In terms of Sindh, we are assisting the health department, nursing department, and another education department in developing the ability of our health personnel.” Dr. Khairunissa Ajani, Assistant Dean, School of Nursing and Midwifery AKU and Ms Kausar S. Khan also spoke on the occasion.

WB team seeks finalization of Sindh Water Policy draft

KARACHI:A delegation of World Bank officials on Monday called on Sindh Minister for Irrigation Department Jam Khan Shoro at his office in Clifton, Karachi.

The delegation was led by the task team leader for Sindh Water and Agriculture Transformation (SWAT) project, Greg Browder, along with Francis Onimues, Josses Moeabi and other officials. The meeting discussed the status of SWAT project, Sindh water policy and the implementation of Sindh Barrages Improvement Projects in detail.

The meeting was attended by the concerned officers of irrigation department Sindh and SIDA, including Managing Director, SIDA Pritam Das, Muhammad Ehsan Laghari and others. The Managing Director SIDA informed that Sindh Irrigation Department had initially prepared a PC-1 of Rs300 million for the resettlement action plan to rehabilitate the areas which are located nearby Akram Wah and in this regard, Sindh government had approved it in the annual development scheme. “Further, Rs200 million has been added for PC1 under SWAT project for the resettlement action plan as well,” he added.

The task team leader of the SWAT Project, Mr Greg Browder, stressed that Sindh government has to finalize the draft of Sindh Water Policy during current year before the month of August because it would be difficult to process the project without finalizing water policy.

On this occasion, Shoro informed that the draft of Sindh Water Policy was under process and very soon would be finalized by taking into confidence the all stakeholders. He said that Sindh Water Policy is an important matter and we were facing lots of different inter-provincial issues and it was connected with the future’s generation of Sindh. He further said, we couldn’t finalize the Sindh Water Policy without the consultations and consensus of stakeholders including organization of farmers and others on it.

Shoro assured his full cooperation and extended support in order to finalize the draft of Sindh Water Policy to the World Bank’s team leader Mr. Greg Browder in order to proceed the Sindh Water and Agriculture Transformation (SWAT) project as soon as possible. In the end, officers concerned also briefed the meeting about the status of Sindh Barrage Improvement Projects in details.

Punjab CM reviews law and order, hails girl’s recovery

LAHORE:A meeting was held under the chair of Chief Minister Punjab Hamza Shahbaz at his office Monday to review the measures taken for the protection of life and property of the people.

IG police briefed about the steps taken for maintaining law and order including the recovery of an abducted girl student from Shad Bagh. The CM directed to take all necessary steps to maintain law and order in the province.

He said that maintaining law and order was the first responsibility of the government. By the grace of Allah Almighty and the hard work of the police, the abducted student from Shad Bagh had returned home safely and the abductors were also arrested by the police in time, he noted.

The chief minister said: “I will not sit idle until justice is not done,” he said and directed that the accused involved in the double murder case in Chichawatni should be brought to book as soon as possible and their arrest be ensured within 48 hours.”

The accused involved in heinous crimes deserved severe punishment and such cases should be treated as test cases for exemplary punishment of the accused, he said. Abdul Aleem Khan, Sardar Owais Leghari, Kh. Imran Nazir, Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, Atta Tarar, Zeeshan Rafiq, chief secretary, CCPO Lahore and others attended the meeting.

NEW BUDGET DISCUSSION

A meeting was held under the chair of Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz at his office today in which salient features of the budget for the new financial year and annual development program were reviewed.

The CM directed to focus on providing maximum facilities to the common man. The new budget should be pro-poor and it should not impose any burden on the common man, he stressed. Out of box measures should be taken to lessen the difficulties for people, he said.

While instructing to increase the funds for south Punjab, he stated that more resources should be allocated for the welfare of the people of south Punjab. Hamza Shahbaz directed to finalize the new budget and ADP proposals soon and formed a high-level committee consisting of elected representatives and economists. Members of Punjab assembly Abdul Aleem Khan, Sardar Owais Leghari, Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, Kh. Imran Nazir, Zeeshan Rafiq, PMLN leader Atta Tarar, chairman P and D and others attended the meeting.

MEDICINES TO CANCER PATIENTS

Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz has said that the supply of medicines to cancer patients should continue uninterrupted. Allah will be pleased with the provision of free medicines to the patients. There should be no further delay in this good deed.

A meeting was held under the chair of Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz in which the provision of free medicines to cancer patients was reviewed. The secretary health reported that negotiations are underway with the pharmaceutical company for the provision of free medicines to 7439 patients. Kh. Imran Nazir, Kh. Salman Rafiq, secretary finance and others attended the meeting.

PARLIAMENTARIANS CALL ON CM

Former MNA Malik Abrar Ahmad, members of Punjab assembly, including Kh Muhammad Wasim, Mian Margoob Ahmad and Sardar Khalid Mehmood, called on CM Hamza Shahbaz and appreciated the step take to reduce the price of the 10kg flour bag.

The initiative would help the common man to get rid of inflation, they said. Hamza Shahbaz said that the price of a 10kg bag of flour had been fixed at Rs490 in the whole province. District price control committees have been reactivated in Punjab. It is the right of traders to make legitimate profits but no one is allowed to make illicit profiteering, he added. Sardar Owais Leghari, Atta Tarar, Zeeshan Rafiq and Ali Raza were also present.

Hamza orders steps against possible outbreak of monkeypox

LAHORE:Chief Minister Punjab Hamza Shahbaz Monday directed the health department to remain vigilant in the wake of the possible spread of monkeypox and added that necessary precautions should be adopted.

In a statement, the CM emphasized that the health department should ensure the implementation of WHO precautions. Similarly, advance measures should be timely adopted to stop the spread of this disease including devising an effective mechanism for the screening of passengers at airports. A campaign should also be run in addition to setting up a monitoring cell, he concluded.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz has expressed a deep sense of sorrow over the loss of lives in a road accident near Murree and directed the administration to provide the best medical facilities to the injured being treated at THQ Hospital. He has also extended sympathies to the bereaved heirs.
