(KP): (Seven killed in Abbottabad road accident)

ABBOTTABAD:Seven people died and 10 others injured in a collision of two tourist coasters in Donga Gali area of Abbottabad on Monday.

According to police, after the collision one coaster fell into a deep ravine. Rescue operation is underway in the area for search of dead bodies and injured. According to preliminary reports, majority of the injured have been shifted to Civil Hospital Murree.

(KP): (Fire emergency declared at fire hit area of Bannu)

BANNU:On the direction of Deputy Commissioner Bannu Muhammad Zubair Khan Niazi, Additional Assistant Commissioners of Bannu Zaman Khan along with Rescue 1122 teams are present on the spot to control the fire in Gangi Khel Kala, FR Gambati Bannu mountains.

The fire is located several kilometers away in the mountains, which poses no threat to the population at the moment. Rescue 1122 Bannu’s two fire extinguishers and an ambulance have been on the scene as soon as the emergency was reported.

A total of 16 rescuers are taking part in the operation. The station house in-charge of station 11 and station 33 are also present to monitor the operation. Rescuers rushed to the scene of the blaze despite difficulties along the way.

(NCOC reconstituted at NIH Islamabad)

ISLAMABAD:National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) has been reconstituted at National Institutes of Health (NIH) Islamabad on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

According to a notification issued on Monday, all concerned Ministries and Directorates will remain engaged in the operations and functions of the NCOC. Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination will head the NCOC.

The NCOC will extend its operations for prevention, detection, surveillance, and response to public health emergencies at national level as well as facilitate coordination with all provinces and regions.

(Anti-polio campaign begins across country)

ISLAMABAD:A five-day anti-polio campaign began across the country on Monday.

During the campaign, approximately 43.3 million children under the age of five years will be administered anti-polio vaccine. A supplementary dose of Vitamin A drops will also be administered to children aged 6 to 59 months. Around 340,000 frontline workers will take part in the campaign to administer vaccine to the children at their doorsteps.

Earlier, inaugurating the campaign last week, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had assured that the government would take all measures to eradicate this crippling disease from the country. He directed the federal and provincial governments and district management to address the challenge of persistently missed children, refusals and fake finger marking during the campaign.

 

Govt cannot raise petrol price, says finance minister

KARACHI:Finance Minister Miftah Ismail on Monday said that the government could not hike petrol price and it has decided to seek more time from International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the matter.

 

Talking to media persons in Karachi, the Finance Minister said that his predecessor Shaukat Tarin and former prime minister Imran Khan reached an agreement with the international lender to hike price of petrol by Rs100. Miftah said that the previous government placed land mines everywhere for the new government.

 

Talking about statement of former minister regarding allocation of funds for subsidy on petroleum products, Miftah said that he could say on oath that Shaukat Tarin was lying and asked him to show where he hid the funds.

 

He said Imran Khan’s 2014 sit-in caused postponement of Chinese president’s visit to the Pakistan and today IMF team that was due in Islamabad for talks has declined to visit because of Imran Khan’s sit-ins. The Finance Minister expressed the hope that in next two days he will succeed in having agreement with IMF in the best interest of the country and the people.

ATC shifts Nizam Jokhio murder case to sessions court

KARACHI:Anti-terrorism court in Karachi on Monday ordered shifting of the Nazim Jokhio murder case to a sessions court.

 

The court directed the investigation officer to present the murder case challan to the sessions court. Earlier, the Nazim Jokhio murder case was transferred to the ATC on Feb 8 on the request of the aggrieved party, but after the change of the government in Centre, MNA Jam Kareem Jokhio, his brother MPA Jam Awais Jokhio and six others who had been nominated in the Jokhio murder were excluded from the case on April 13.

 

The investigation officer of the case, Siraj Lashari, submitted the challan to the anti-terrorism court. In the challan, Haider, Mairaj and Niaz were nominated as accused in the case. The judicial magistrate Malir had ordered to include anti-terrorism clauses in the case. The family of Nazim Jokhio alleged that PPP MPA Jam Awais Gohram Jokhio and his men had allegedly tortured Nazim, aged 30, in Memon Goth area of Karachi to death in October 2021.

 

The MPA was fumed as Nazim tried to stop his foreign guests from hunting houbara bustards. When the foreign guests continued with their hunting, Nazim filmed them and uploaded the video on social media. After some days, Nazim was abducted and his tortured body was found in the farmhouse of MPA Jam Awais in Murad Goth, Malir in November 2021. There were bruises and abrasions on his body.

 

Police registered a murder case against MPA Awais, his brother MNA Jam Kareem and others. They detained Awais but Jam Kareem left the country and flew to Dubai. Police nominated detained MPA and four others as accused in their charge sheet and shown MNA Jam Kareem as an absconding suspect in the case. However, Jam Kareem later returned to the country.

(FM attends Annual Meeting of WEF in Davos)

ISLAMABAD:Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will attend the Annual Meeting of World Economic Forum (WEF) from today (Monday) to Thursday in Davos, Switzerland on the invitation of President of the WEF.

 

This year the Forum is being organized under the theme, “History at a Turning Point: Government Policies and Business Strategies”. The Foreign Minister will be accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ms Hina Rabbani Khar. Both the Foreign Minister and the Minister of State will participate in a number of WEF events on contemporary global and regional issues.

 

The Foreign Minister will share Pakistan’s perspective on the economic and social impacts of the evolving geopolitical developments as well as the challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, food and energy security, and climate change. He will also meet his counterparts attending the annual meeting and interact with the media.

 

The World Economic Forum annually brings together political and business leaders as well as representatives from international organizations, civil society and youth representations from across the world to deliberate and identify pathways to overcome economic, social and environmental challenges.
