India records first death from Monkeypox

New Delhi, August 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):A Kerala youth who had tested positive for monkeypox died, Indian media quoting state Health Minister Veena George as having confirmed. The 22-year-old youth, a native of Punniyoor in Thrissur, died at a private hospital in Thrissur. The government said that while the results of the test done confirmed the presence of the monkeypox virus, a probe would be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.

“The youth had no symptoms of monkeypox. He had been admitted to a hospital with symptoms of encephalitis and fatigue. His relatives handed over the test result only on Saturday. A high-level probe would be held into the death as monkeypox has a very low fatality rate,’’ said the minister, as per the report.

The state health department has sent his samples to the National Institute of Virology’s Alappuzha unit in Kerala. The youth, who was employed at Ras al-Khaimah in the UAE, reached Kozhikode airport in Kerala on 22 July.

“He had been active after reaching home. He played football at a local ground. On July 26, he developed a fever and sought treatment at a local hospital, Later, he was shifted to another hospital, where he was put on life support. He said he had got tested in the UAE before boarding the flight to Kerala. After his death, we came to know that he was told to take a rest after reaching home,” the Indian Express reported. India has so far four confirmed monkeypox cases, three of them in Kerala. The patient who had the first reported case was discharged from the hospital on Saturday.

Custodial killers rule IIOJK, says APHC-AJK leadership

Islamabad, August 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):APHC-AJK leadership while condemning the surge in the killing of innocent Kashmiris by Indian troops in occupied Jammu and Kashmir has criticized the criminal silence of the international community over blatant human rights violations committed by New Delhi in the occupied territory.

APHC-AJK former Convener, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani in a statement in Islamabad, today, expressed shock over premeditated plan of murder of an innocent youth of Kupwara, Akhtar Ahmad Butt in a fake encounter, yesterday. He said that the actual facts as stated by the martyr’s family confirm that the young boy had been dragged from his shop on 15th of last July and was subjected to forcible disappearance before being killed in police and army custody. He deplored that body of the martyred youth was not handed over to his family for proper burial.

Rehmani said human rights activists and free and independent journalists and photojournalists had been silenced as there was a dreadful atmosphere of threat of the Indian regime’s secret agencies and wandering RSS gangs all across occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He appealed to the UNCHR to take measures for safety and security of the innocent Muslim population of Kashmir.

Meanwhile, APHC-AJK spokesman Imtiaz Wani in a statement in Islamabad said that India has turned Jammu and Kashmir into a military garrison. He said that the killing of Akhtar was a blatant violation of human rights and lamented that brutal Indian forces were killing Kashmiris on daily basis. He urged the United Nations and world major powers to play their role in peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute to avert innocent killings in the occupied territory.

APHC-AJK leader Altaf Hussain Wani in a statement terming the killing as worst form of state terrorism deplored that the authorities have been denying Kashmiris the right to burial. The secret burials of youth killed during police custody and fake encounters, he said, were a deliberate attempt to hide the crimes against innocent Kashmiris.

Modi creating ‘Yes-Man’ class of Muslim leadership in India

New Delhi, August 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Narendra Modi-led BJP government is creating a new class of ‘Yes-Man’ Muslim leadership in India. In this regard, observers believe that the holding of interfaith communal harmony meeting at the Constitution Club at the behest of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, a few days ago, is a part of the Modi’s anti-Muslim plan.

The event was organized by the All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council and 45 religious leaders attended it. The participants belonged to different religions and came from different parts of India. The observers say the BJP government does not recognize Muslim intelligentsia as the political leader fit to lead the community.

So the BJP government is creating a new Muslim leadership and its eyeing custodians of Muslim Sufi Saints’ Shrines for this purpose. These people are handpicked by the Modi government and are recognized as the representatives of the Muslim community. The observers says that Ajit Doval’s conference was an exercise to ban the Popular Front of India (PFI) that has become activated after scores of anti–Muslim hate crimes reported in the India.
