At protests in Larkana

LARKANA: Awami Tehreek and Sindhi Hari Tehreek Larkana protested in front of the press club here on Saturday against rendering helpless and misery the rain victims of Qamber-Shahdadkot, Dadu and Larkana districts, due to administrative negligence and injustice to the flood victims. They also shouted slogans with placards and organizational flags in their hands.

On this occasion, the Central Secretary of Awami Tehreek Advocate Sajid Hussain Mahesar, Central Vice President of Sindhi Hari Tehreek Ghulam Mustafa Chandio, Organizer of Awami Tehreek District Larkana Advocate Zalfiqar Ali Mirani, Haji Ali Hassan Wako, President of Sindhi Student Tehreek District Larkana Farhan Kalhoro, Muhammad Khan Chandio, Ali Muhammad Wako, Faqir Khawand Dino Dayo, Zubair Sarfaraz Soomro and others said that deputy commissioners Qamber Shahdadkot, Dadu and Larkana have not done anything for the flood victims and they have committed criminal negligence and crime by neglecting their official duties.

They said their duty is only to serve the elected representatives, elite and to deliver the goods and tents of the flood victims at their bungalows. They said many people are still stuck up in Warah taluka of Kambar-Shahdadkot who need to be rescued immediately and ration, tents and other goods should be sent to them. The people of Haji Saeen Rakhio Chandio and people of UC Ghaibi Dero are dying of hunger and disease, Dadu district especially taluka Khairpur Nathan Shah and Mehar flood victims are dying everyday due to the criminal negligence of the administration. They further alleged that DC Dadu is not visible, except for elite and elected representatives he is not ready to answer the phone calls. Two times food is not delivered to the flood victims in Larkana district. The rain-affected people are sitting in the open places.

The food ration and tents have been handed over to the elected representatives and UC chairmen which are given to favorable persons on the basis of recommendation and no higher officials including the Sessions Judge are ready to take notice of such illegal acts, they further alleged.

They demanded that the people of Sindh, especially the people of District Qambar-Shahdadkot and Dadu, have been beaten and drowned by hand be given Rs50 lakhs for the families of those who died due to floods and 20 lakhs for the sick, houses should be provided to the displaced and every affected family should be given relief. At least 50 lakh rupees should be given as aid, the victims suffering from hunger and diseases should be immediately evacuated and the relief materials should be delivered to the actual flood victims instead of the bungalows of the elected representatives.

UN chief urges world to support flood-hit Pakistan

SUKKUR: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Saturday urged the international community to support flood-hit Pakistan as the country needed massive financial help to overcome post-flood crises.

“It is not a matter of generosity, but a matter of justice,” he said reiterating the UN’s commitment, strong support and solidarity with the flood-affected populace of Pakistan. Guterres said that huge damages and losses were caused to human lives and properties.

The UN absolutely supported the Pakistani nation and requested the well-resourced nations to support the country massively, so that it could face the future challenges of climatic changes and save its nation.

He stressed that the international community must realize the serious impacts of greenhouse emissions as nature was striking back in the form of natural calamities. The issue of greenhouse gases had accelerated the climatic changes and the nations having larger greenhouse emissions footprints must understand these issues, he added.

According to the scientific estimates, the UN secretary-general emphasized that now, it was a time to reduce greenhouse emissions. He said it was also a fact that they were living in a climatic changing era and have to make efforts to rebuild communities and to enable the countries to resist and face the future disasters that could be wrought by the natural calamities.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb provincial ministers and the relevant authorities were also present. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah gave a detailed briefing over the damages and loss of lives in the province.

He said during the current monsoon season, different districts of the province had received unusual rainfall never witnessed in the past. He said that 30 districts of the province were affected, displacing about 12 million, adding that a total of 578 people lost their lives. A total of 3 million houses were destroyed and crops grown on an area of about 3.3 million acres were damaged while 500,000 livestock had been swept away.

The chief minister said that Pakistan had been facing the impacts of global warming and climatic changes, adding that they required the international community’s financial support for the relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.

Earlier, the prime minister along with UN secretary general and the federal ministers took an aerial review of the flood affected areas of the Sindh province. PM Shehbaz Sharif and the UNSG Antonio Guterres will also visit the flood affected areas of Balochistan after Sindh to review the ongoing rescue and relief efforts and the damages caused by the calamity. They will also meet with the flood victims.

NEPRA unveils Rs4.11 per unit deduction in KE tariff for Sept

ISLAMABAD: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a deduction of Rs4.11 per unit in power tariff for K-Electric consumers in electricity bills for the month of September.

According to a notification, the decline in tariff was made under fuel adjustment charges and the K-Electric consumers will get a relief of Rs4.11 per unit in September.

The lifeline consumers of the power utility will, however, not be able to avail the relief. On August 11, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) increased the power tariff for K-Electric consumers by Rs11.10 per unit.

The approval was given in terms of fuel adjustment charges for June 2022 and the increase will not be applicable for lifeline consumers. The recent hike will be charged in the bills for August and September 2022, read the notification.

“(The FCA) shall be shown separately in the consumers’ bills on the basis of units billed to the consumers in the respective month to which the adjustment pertains,” said NEPRA.

Dacoits thrashed by public

Pakpattan: Residents of a locality in Pakpattan beat up three dacoits mercilessly before handing them over to police, according to a report on Saturday.

According to the report, the dacoits were fleeing after robbing two houses in the jurisdiction of Kalyana police station. Although the police tried to arrest them, but failed.

On seeing police’s failure, locals chased them and managed to get hold of them. They vented their anger at them by kicking and punching them. Later, they handed over the dacoits to the police.

China pledges to provide urgently-needed supplies including 25,000 tents to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: China has pledged to provide urgently-needed supplies including 25,000 tents to assist Pakistan in its flood relief efforts.

This was stated by Pakistan Ambassador to China, Moin ul Haque while interacting with members of Pakistan community at Pakistan Embassy in Beijing. Pakistan’s Envoy said China has, so far, airlifted urgently-need flood relief supplies consisting 5,000 tents by its military cargo planes.

Meanwhile, two Chinese power companies, Solar energy conglomerate Zonergy and the electricity generation equipment manufacturer Shanghai Electric have announced nineteen million rupees for people affected by devastating floods in Pakistan.

74th death anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to be observed tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: The 74th death anniversary of father of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah will be observed with due solemnity tomorrow (Sunday).

Quran Khwani and Fateha Khwani will be held at the Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi. Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television will broadcast special programmes on this occasion to pay tribute to Quaid-i-Azam for his unmatched services for freedom of Pakistan. Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah passed away on 11th September, 1948 shortly after achieving freedom for the nation.

Govt launches 1122 Sindh Emergency Services in Hyderabad

KARACHI: The Sindh Health Department has officially launched 12 state of the art, fully equipped Emergency Ambulances in the Hyderabad district as part of Rescue 1122 Sindh Emergency Services.

The emergency ambulances are to be operated by Sindh Integrated Emergency and Health Services (SIEHS) expanding the operations that they had already been providing to the city with two ambulances, in addition to those operated in Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal, and Larkana. This service is and will remain free of charge.

During COVID-19, a temporary set up was established by SIEHS at the request of the health department, which has been operating with two ambulances in Hyderabad since 21st November, 2020. The services continued even after Covid-19 cases declined and to date, SIEHS emergency ambulances have provided medical assistance to over 5000 people with 2543 hospital-to-hospital transfers, 1076 home-to-hospital transfers, 308 roadside-to-hospital transfers, 637 first-aid cases, and 457 other cases.

The services were provided to 2436 male patients, 1720 female patients, and 865 children. The emergency cases were categorized as 26% life threatening cases, 65% serious cases, and 9% low-level emergencies. This expansion of the emergency ambulances has not only provided quality pre-hospital emergency services to those in need in the district of Hyderabad but also employment opportunities to technically trained residents of Hyderabad district, ensuring improved quality of life.

The service can be accessed simply by dialing the toll-free number 1122 from any cell phone/Landline, in the event of a life-threatening or serious medical emergency. The Health Department, Government of Sindh, plans to continue expanding Emergency Ambulance services operated by SIEHS in other districts of Sindh in the coming months so that every person in need of emergency pre-hospital care can avail it, free of charge.
