Karachi, April 12, 2019 (PPI-OT): On the 2nd day of the TEXPO Pakistan 2019, delegations from Afghanistan, Czech Republic, Vietnam, Nigeria and France met with the Mr. Abdul Razzak Dawood, Adviser to PM for Commerce, Textile, Industry and Production, Sardar Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera, Federal Secretary Commerce and Mr. Muhammad Sualeh Ahmed Faruqui, Secretary TDAP and discussed special bilateral trade hurdles and opportunities, and how the same could be addressed in order to increase trade with Pakistan.
Trade Development Authority of Pakistan also organized an inaugural dinner for foreign delegates at Governor House, Lahore. Dr. Arif Alvi, President of Pakistan grace the occasion with his presence and welcomed the 300 foreign representatives besides 400 exhibitors to the four-day TEXPO, adding that the hospitality of the Pakistanis would lure their hearts.
Deputy Director General from Amman Chamber of Commerce presented a draft MoU to Senior Vice President of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and hopefully, soon this MoU would be signed with mutual consent from both the chambers.
On the sidelines of TEXPO, 2019 TDAP also conducted a seminar on “Trade Facilitation and Trade Facilitation Agreement”. The opening remarks were given by Mr. Rafeo Bashir, Director General TDAP. Dr. Syed Tauqir Shah, Pakistan’s former permanent representative to WTO moderated the first session. The topic of 2nd session was “Sustainability and Innovative Technologies in Textiles” and it was moderated by Mr. Muhammad Ashraf, Director General in Ministry of Commerce. The speakers in both sessions were Government officials, Industry and International experts on textile and Academia.
Dr. Munir while giving the overall brief on textiles apprised that Pakistan is at the forefront on innovating the textiles segment by introducing nano technology with self-cleaning properties. This specific technology will recalibrate Pakistan`s position in global trade and introduce the country as supplier of cutting-edge materials. Ms. Alia Malik highlighted BCI’s role in development of sustainable techniques which has enhanced the yield capacity of cotton crops.
In collaboration with WWF Pakistan, BCI has created better awareness with farming community and eradication of child labour. With this global support, Pakistan has committed to producing sustainable cotton and is one of the 3 counties to pledge to this campaign. Top clothing and retail brands are also exploring this avenue of procuring sustainable cotton.
TDAP also arranged another seminar in collaboration with “Punjab Board of Investment and Trade” (PIBIT) with an objective to create awareness among the trade about the investment opportunities available in Pakistan.
